Not enough Cailou.
Great article. The most I've enjoyed this feature, and the thing that has finally made me understand what the fuck The Lawnmower Man is and that picture of that awful CGI man from it.
HOWEVER, that was a heartbreaking reference to the Genesis VR Troopers game. I hate(d) that show, but I have always thought that game was rad. As a fighting game it boils down to being another Street Fighter II/Mortal Kombat ripoff, yeah, but it looks and sounds so awesome.
Look at this dog:
In the show, it's a vehicle for the worst Jack Nicholson impression you've ever heard. In the game, THIS DOG IS PIERCING YOUR FUCKING MIND WITH MATHEMATICAL EQUATIONS
Sam Fisher literally cracks jokes pretty often. In the original 3 games at least. That was the worst example, but yes, the Tom Clancy oeuvre is generally pretty humorless.
So about those character designs...
Neo Nazi with a G instead of a swastika, mystical Chinese women with volleyballs where her breasts should be, and a guy who's going to spray "sizzurp" on you because haha have you heard that Three 6 Mafia song or had the contents of Lil Wayne's red cup explained to you?
I'm disappointed that nobody has mentioned this, but David Jaffe was neither on Castle, World, Land or Legend of Illusion for that matter. Those were all Sega developed and published. He was a designer on Mickey Mania: The Timeless Adventures of Mickey Mouse, which was developed by Traveller's Tales and published by Sony Imagesoft.
...disappointed in myself for being the only one reticent of such pointless information WHY
Somebody please make Vinny's idea of a Telltale-style game where you play as Shaq and respond to those 2 guys busting his balls. That would be fucking incredible.
