Vinny's hope/idea for a Mass Effect in the latest Beastcast as being focused on a single system with non-galaxy-ending stakes sounds interesting to me, and I think makes sense regardless of which ending from ME3 they pick. I agree that the Mass Effect world is interesting enough that you could make a game set in a single location, like Omega or the Citadel, or a solar system and still have a lot going on.

But Vinny's idea also doesn't sound realistic at all. I feel like EA isn't going to greenlight a new game in the series known for traveling across the galaxy that would appear at first glance to have a much more limited scope.

Likewise seeing what presumably is Liara in that trailer had me thinking for a time that maybe she could be the main character. But then I realized that Bioware wouldn't make a Mass Effect game where you couldn't create your own character. While I personally don't think that's a requirement, and it would be cool to play as Liara a couple hundred years in the future, I also recognize it's not gonna happen.

So trying to think more realistically it would be great if you could pick different races as your main character, and not just be a human. Let me choose from Human, Asari, Turian, Quarian, Salarian, Drell, or Geth(?)! That's a lot of duplicate dialogue to record so maybe restrict to just the first 3 or 4, but more variety in who you can play as is the thing that seems both doable and something I'd hope they do.

What are your hopes and more realistic expectations for the new game?

2 Goldfish were in a tank. One says to the other "you man the guns, and I'll drive."

What follows are the games I've actually played.

I've been thinking recently how they could probably cut down on the total time it takes to record GOTY if they allowed up to 5 games in a category instead of always having 3. Not every category should necessarily have 5 games/items if people didn't feel strongly about something, a la modern Oscar Best Picture nominations. Especially as the number of staff involved has increased it feels like most categories run into the situation where we go around the table and everyone picks their favourites out of like a group of 5 or 6 to try and get a final 3. To me anyway there's a difference in trying to get a group of 4 or 5 to pick 3 games than getting 8 or 9 people to agree on 3.

This isn't a perfect solution, and it may shift more of the conversation towards "I don't think this game deserves any recognition in this category" but in the conversations they have I prefer them talking about which games in their pick of 3 deserves to win than trying to convince people why their game doesn't deserve an honorable mention. And that feels like it would save them time. We don't need to break 30 hours of GOTY this year.

I finished Pyre a couple days ago and wanted to share some of the events that stuck out in my mind.

Spoilers abound, obviously.

I'm quite satisfied with how my ending turned out. We had a peaceful revolution. After everything shook out, my Reader set off across the ocean, with Sandra in the beyonder crystal. We had a good connection.

My style was to send up people who didn't seem to fit in with the Commonwealth. So my first member liberated was Ti'Zo. Pamitha, Rhae, jodariel, the ones who could bring some of that Downside charm back up top.

I tried to let most events play out the way they intended, but after losing to H. Manley Tinderstauf twice I was not going to let him win in the liberation rite and restarted that fight. Years from now hearing that name will likely send me into a rage.

Rhae was definitely my favourite character, both in behaviour and speech. She was the last person liberated, before myself. I know, I know, I should've stayed behind, but after Hedwyn offered me a chance to leave I couldn't turn that down. And he his former love joined him down below, so I think he'd be happy in the Downside. Sandalwood and Bertrude also remained.

My biggest regret was not saving Tamitha. Pamitha was liberated, and while I think Tamitha's rage subsided, they never got their chance to reconcile.

That song at the end was great. I'd love it if Supergiant let you fill in some sort of form with your characters end points to download "your" version of the credits song.

What big moments stand out to you, good or bad?

Well I'm getting married soon, so things in the near future may be a little bit hectic, but I've been DMing with friends for a couple years and have been itching to play as a character again, so I'm in.

I DM a 5e campaign so I'm pretty familiar with the rules, have the rule books, but haven't used roll20 before.

@theblue: That was my feeling too. Lots of side quests pop from the main dandelion search that it really felt like we were looking for him for 30 hours.

The way the story proceeds some of the Novigrad sidequests seem like they should be put on hold until after you find Dandelion, because of the way that one quest tells you to wrap up any important side quests. So I get why people would drop off playing the game. it's such a shame that the section isn't paced better because for as good as the Bloody Baron questline is, the second half/ last 1/3rd of that game is much better than what comes before.

Happy for the Oestreicher's and the new kid, but sad that this means no appearances by them during Extra Life...
