I own monitors with similar specs to both and I would take the 34" Ultrawide any day of the week.. At that screen size 4k vs. QHD is not a huge difference from my experience. Also if you do anything aside from games, the 21:9 aspect ratio is a huge boon for productivity. I do video editing, music production, and stuff with Excel and having that extra real estate is RAD.

Also, the ultrawide you listed runs at 100hz, while the 4k monitor is 60hz, so another pro for the UW imo.

@creepingdeath0: Nope, straight up false. Anything under 10 times a day is normal. I drink 2-3 liters of water a day. I appreciate the concern though, friend!

If anyone else wants to talk about pee feel free to hit me up. Clear stream boyz represent.

@the_tribunal: Nah, just actually wanted to know the purpose of this essay. Like it's one thing to list things you don't like in context of a particular video, but this "letter to the editor" format about how this enthusiast games site isn't "professional" enough for him to keep a subscription going seems to come from a different place. It feels odd to post this to the forum. Why is OP informing us of this info. Is he hoping the staff reads it? Is he looking for validation? I'm genuinely interested in the intent.

I never said people can't say negative things. Mostly just poked fun at the common complaints. I almost never agree with said complaints, but people are totally allowed to make their "grievances" known. I'm also totally allowed to respond.

Wow! If you really think needing to use the restroom in the middle of 2-4 hours of streaming/recording is because they didn't go beforehand, I'm really worried about your water intake. I need to pee at least every 2 hours tbh.

But seriously, why make this post? It just sounds like GB isn't for you anymore and you're trying to convince other people to not like it? Or validate your decision? If you really want the staff to hear your complaints send them an email or hit up Jeff's tumblr (though considering their current success I doubt they'll take it to heart?). If I'm missing the point here, please let me know.

@ripelivejam: Also, this. I've been following the OG crew since '05. It really seems like OP is looking for something that GB is not trying to be and also NEVER tried to be. Another month, another misguided "let me tell you how this very successful website about video games SHOULD be run" post I guess. Now I'm just waiting for a few more replies talking about how Dan should be fired, Austin needs to talk less, and Jeff hates all games that were made after 1985.

Someone should make bingo cards.

@ssully: Yep, exactly this.

Also, there's a sea of difference between saying "I tried Overwatch and here's why it's not clicking for me" and "Man, this game is an absolute turd!" Honestly, the response is pretty mild considering how inflammatory a title that is plus the strong feelings people seem to have for this game.

We can all like and dislike whatever, but if someone's creating a forum topic, realize it is creating a discussion and with that there's dialogue from other perspectives.

Personally, I've been really enjoying it. I haven't had any issues keeping track of characters. They make it pretty clear in the select screen what role each falls into. I also really enjoy the eye-popping visuals and particle stuff, but I can totally, totally see how the latter could be off-putting. I will also say it's vvv well-optimized. Running it on Ultra at 1440p/120fps and it feels so good.

I do agree that the maps seem a little lacking. imo they could definitely be a bit more varied. They kind of all feel like skins of the same basic structure. I'll most likely pick up the base game when it drops for real, though.

FF XV: I'm now intrigued. I kind of shrugged it off initially, but it's 10-year dev cycle and Square's posturing make me feel like I HAVE to play it. Will probably not finish, just like every FF game I've touched besides VI and X.

DSIII: Haven't touched a Souls game since DaS1, but this one really seems up my alley. People describing it as more linear and a bit shorter is a big plus. Hopefully the PC version isn't borked on release. Hopping on the "not really a JRPG" bandwagon though.

Persona 5: It's Persona. How could I not play it?

Bravely Second: I really, really liked 90% of the first game. Apparently this one fixes some huge issues from the first, but has its own probs as well.

Nier: Automata: I bought the first Nier like two years ago. Will def try to go through it before this one drops.

This year seems baller for my personal JRPG preferences. I didn't really play any last year (Sorry XCX and Trails of Cold Steel :((), because 2015 was just so jam packed with great games all around. 2016 is looking a little calmer so hopefully I can play all 5 of these.

Might also give World of Final Fantasy and those 3DS DQ remakes a look too if I have time.

I don't have many friends with PCs in general, so no. I'm still getting my Rift though (listen I NEED to watch anime in a virtual movie theater). A lot of the shit they were doing looked rad and as someone who never messed with the DKs it'll still have that novelty to me.

I think PSVR will be the one to rec to people tbh. I think in these early days there's not enough content to justify a $1500 purchase to someone w/o a dank rig, but PSVR is only $400 for the millions of people with PS4s already (most of my friends). Hopefully by the time the PSVR drops there will be more content. It's going to be a strange trip! The tech is finally there more or less, now it's just up to devs to find out what the killer app will be. Maybe I should dig into Unity...

Nvidia and AMD won't be releasing their flagship cards until 2017 due to HBM2's production rate. So what you're looking at coming this summer most likely won't be the wow factor people are expecting with the new architecture. It's more about having the flagship cards we have now pushed into somewhat smaller, cheaper cards. So is it worth it to you to wait 3-5 months (cards should drop in August) for a maybe ~15-20% increase in power over a 390? I think it might be a good idea to wait it out if you can manage, just because when these new cards drop you'll most likely see some price drops on current hardware.

OTOH, if you want to upgrade now, I would look to getting a used 290/x. They can run about $200-250 and would be a great option for anything at 1080p. OR get a 380 on the cheap and see how the new kush is. You could always sell the 380 and upgrade when Polaris is out. It's really easy to sell GPUs nowadays with eBay, r/hardwareswap, etc. So if you're really, really jonesing for an upgrade I'd say just go for it now if you can spare the cash.
