A list of my favorite games driven almost entirely on atmosphere, in order. There are a lot of games that I haven't finished or I am not comfortable putting on this list that probably belong here.

Some transcendently beautiful levels in this game, particularly the Gothic-inspired ones. Easy to overlook the gameplay hitches which are present but still *way* improved over the original.

The gameplay, combat, and sound effects build suspense better than any game in recent memory. Excellent dark dreamlike atmosphere.

This game beautifully dances the line between obtuse and engaging, pompous and thought-provoking, tasteful nudity and OMG_babes. The LP of this game may be the best way to experience it (http://lparchive.org/The-Void/) and is what made me pick it up on Steam. Just wish I had more time top play it myself.

A beautiful and scenic and eerie exploration game driven by great narration and music with a couple small surprises.

Another great game driven mainly by atmosphere and experimentation with minimal dialog that may not hold up today but really gripped me when I was a kid.

I really liked the story and atmosphere of this game but I totally understand why some people really didn't.

Watching a friend play through REmake at the time was incredibly intense. RE4 also had some incredibly tense action and a lot of fun gameplay. This series certainly deserves a mention.
