I'm really sick of Valve using steam as a marketing tool to shamelessly promote their own products. Case in point, recommending me Gary's Mod based on my playtime of Monday Night Combat. Those games aren't even remotely similar and yet somehow Valve decides to shove one of their published games in my face. You want your own digital distribution platform for your software? Great! You want to sell other people's games and then use that leverage and exposure to market your own stuff? Not great.
I guess the cake isn't a lie, because Valve has found out how to have it and eat it too.
Why do PC gamers have such a problem with regenerating health? I really don't see the benefit to clinging to archaic outmoded concepts of game design. Just because you can't move on, doesn't mean the industry can't or shouldn't. Is it really that difficult to see that there might actually be some design benefits to such a system? If there wasn't would we really have seen such a widespread adoption of it?
Can we all just agree that it's easier to be more precise with a mouse? Can we also agree that a controller is also better at certain things, like anything requiring fine analog control such as driving games or some platformers? But most importantly, can we all just agree that people are perfectly capable of having fun while playing a video game regardless of how they decide to control it?
I love hearing about the 'consolification' of games. It's like wearing a great big nametag that says "I'm an elitist douche that can't grasp the realities of a changing marketplace, so don't waste time listening to my drivel". It's really quite the time saver! Not only can I not believe that there are people out there that think this hobby would be better off if it had stayed with a smaller market and limited appeal, I can't believe that they think the industry wouldn't have tried to get mass market appeal regardless of the platforms involved.
I'll never understand those people who only buy PC games if they can get them on Steam. It's the worst sort of fanboyism. It's like if you had a PS3 capable of playing 360 games, but then you still only bought games for the PS3. Why willfully limit your gaming options like that? If you're not going to embrace the platform's greatest strength (diversity) then just buy a console already so others don't have to hear your incessant bitching.
Edit: I find this particularly insulting to indie devs, who basically have to sign up to have a portion of their profits taken away just so people will consider buying their game. Nice work 'supporting' the creative people developing for your platform.
