Robert Chiang's Top 10 Games of the Year 2015

The year 2015 being quite good to me. It gave me a new laptop, PS4 and Xbox One, plus the following 3 depressing realization:

1. As a narrative media, video game still have a very very very long way to go even in 2015.

2. I might be a worse video game "junkie" than I imagine since I played more than I can put on a Top 10 list.

3.I might be a bigger Microsoft Brand Loyalists than I realized, with my self cursing at the Xbox One interface yet could not stop play No.2 on the list until the credits rolled.

Anyway, enjoy the list and happy holidays in advance

Honorable mentions:

1.Batman Arkham Knight. Rocksteady finally closed out their "trilogy". But it was such a cluster f**k that I it almost burnt me out on AAA third person action adventure games. Plus even as one of those lucky bastards who got it run relatively well on their PCs, Warner's handling of the PC version here leaves so much more to be desired.

2.Hotline Miami 2 the Wrong Number. Without this game toughing me up a bit, I might not be able to finish the first game on this list.

List items

  • (Played on PC)Journey met Guacamelee with a little bit Hayao Miyazaki in the mix, tough and so good!

  • (Played on Xbox One)Die Harder with Lara Croft! Also it made me buy an Xbox One this year, so to whoever sealed that deal in Microsoft, you got me, you f***ers!

  • (Played on 3DS, in Japanese)I looked at my 3DS LL and thought "Why wait?" As 25 years old high fantasy series from Japan, took you lot long enough to make something resemble Japan in your games.

  • (Played on PC, in Japanese)Well, what you know? As a long time MGSer(We used to call Metal Gear Solid fans that here in Mainland China btw), playing one MGS at launch like the rest of the world, I lost my s*** like the rest of the world

  • (Played on PC)Came in for the sci-fi, stayed for the sci-fi.

  • (Played on PC)Interactive cartoon with rogue-like element of 2015 No.2.

    Genre: Action?

    Theme: Star Wars?

Note: 1.Did 17-Bit deliberately choose the Halo 5 week to release the Steam version?

    2. Diablo in space? Took you long enough, industry.

  • (Played on PC)Interactive cartoon with rogue-like element of 2015 No.1.

    Genre: Stealth focused Turn-based Tactics

    Theme: Cyberpunk Spy-fi

Note: Thank you for ease the longer wait for the 5th season of Person of Interest, game.

  • (Played on PC)Wolfenstein the New Order was quite a pleasant surprise, this is arguable better on the ground that it's cheaper, leaner and meaner.

  • (Played on PC)Charming, funny. Puzzles can be slightly better, since I had to reference IGN's wiki by the lovely Miranda Sanchez a lot. Still, good job Double Fine, you lot made a good game out that crowd funding s*** storm.

  • (Played on PC)No matter the story in this game is real or not, guess it's fair to call Davey Wreden one of the more convincing writers in this video game business.
