I have a 4 year old boy myself (along with a couple older kids, but for the purposes of this post my 4 year old matters!) I would absolutely go with a lot of the different lego games. They all have quite a few female characters, and they really are the perfect little games for father/son or father/daughter gaming. I also think Skylanders would be a great choice as well. You can limit your investment and just get a couple of characters that she likes.

The GOTY has always gone off like this, and I still listen every year. For the most part I'm just fine with it. It's not perfect, but it won't ever be perfect. I don't think it needs to be completely rewritten, but maybe a few tweaks here or there would help. But that's not for me to talk about.

However, there's something in this thread that I don't understand. People are ALL OVER Abby for how she made her arguments, and that they weren't "up to par" for one reason or another. And yet people don't say boo about how poor a LOT of the other arguments are at times. Things like "I will leave the room if this doesn't win this category" seems to be fine for people because of who said it, and yet Abby is getting dumped on over and over here for not being articulate enough in all cases. Other staffers get away with circular, uninteresting arguments all the time, and other staffers use childish threats all the time. I don't get why Abby suddenly brings out such vitriol.

I think she was a refreshing new personality in the room, and I think it was a great new perspective to have on games. I also really enjoyed how Ben's voice also added some new flavor to the discussion. Without that I think it would just turn back into "What was our favorite action game this year?"

And yes, Ryan is still definitely missed. He had a great way of steering and managing discussions effectively as a host which is still missing here.

I can't for the life of me find this particular episode of the bombcast. Maybe it's due to how much E3 stuff there is every year, I don't know. Anyhow, I distinctly remember a moment from after the pricing reveal of the two new consoles where Jeff went all Jeff and played out Sony shanking Microsoft with it's announcements. Anyone happen to remember what I'm talking about and/or which Bombcast it might have been in?

I almost think they should split the Music category in two. One award for best orchestral soundtrack, and one award for whatever techno-y or heavy metal-y soundtrack they like best.

Fallout 4. I bought the all-in pack at launch from Best Buy, and still proudly sport my Vault Boy socks quite often. I played it right at release, but never really got all that far. Part of that is because I have 3 kids, and that really changes how and when you can play games. I remember when I was in my late teens and early twenties, I had all the time in the world but no means to buy most games. Now I can buy anything I want when I want, but rarely have the time. (Besides, I can't really play the mature rated games I like except late at night!)

I also think I made mistakes in character development that was just making the game too hard for me. I recently picked it back up again, and found a fun build online that focuses on pistols and stealth. I'm really enjoying it now, and I have all kinds of DLC and content to look forward to.

@amyggen: Generally they take you out back and beat the shit out of you.

Oh, and I may or may not have gotten an email similar to ones described earlier in this thread. :) Now excuse me, some guys are here to beat the shit out of me.

I look like an idiot the way I spray gunfire with a controller. I think I do just need practice.

@gaspower No, I have not. I might need to try it out sometime.

I'll keep playing, see if I can get better. I'm playing this on Xbox One, and maybe part of it is the lack of a mouse an keyboard. I recall that I played Bioshock Infinite on PC for my first playthrough, played on Hard and had no real issues. Then I decided to start another play through, but this time on the console. I was TERRIBLE. Maybe the real question is this:

How does anyone play FPS with a controller? :)

Just when I think I'm out, they pull me back in. I played my first few matches of Titanfall tonight. Great feeling game, everything seems to work right, etc. There's one problem that I always forget about, though, and this is a problem with every FPS I've played.

I suck at them. Not just terrible. Turrible. A detriment to whatever side I'm on. A feeder. A waste of a slot. I might as well be one of the AI guys, they probably have better kill numbers.

I don't know if I just need practice or someone to teach me or what, but I'm just plain bad. If I concentrate on keeping moving, I invariably get sniped or run right into someone. If I try to find a good spot to try to pick off people from afar, I end up with a broken neck. When I watch the kill cam, it looks like I just run right out in front of people.

Now, I've never stuck with one of these games very long, which is likely part of the problem. It's frustrating to play as poorly as I do. And I can't learn the maps if I don't stick with it. But it's embarrassing when that end-game screen comes up and I see my pathetic kill count.

So who else is terrible at competitive FPS games?
