I installed Avast FREE version on a mates and reletives laptop a few months ago.
I chose it due to it being free I though better have em protected with unlimited updates than put a trial on for a months worth of protection.

Unfortunatly it slowed bother their systems down to a snails pace, so they quickely returned them to me to change it.

Now, there laptops arent high spec, but Avast made them simply unusable.

note: I dont expect high end machines to have a problem with it, but when I put nod32 on for them you couldnt tell it was there.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus is very good.
ESSET Nod32 is the best in my view.

Vista is fine, I like it. For some bizarre reason though, they decided to remove the Up Folder ( ) ... [more]
I never noticed that, had it since launch and never noticed, and thats something i use alot in XP.
But in vista you can click on the folder structure within the address box to go up the folder hierarchy, so it is a little easier.

Ive had Vista since it was released, and I love it.
It has alot of little cool features that makes things alot faster.

But i have to admit, I dont game on Vista.
This is due to my laptop having SLi and when vista first came out nVidia hadnt sorted there SLi drivers out for it, so I run a dual boot system, one nice small clean instalation of XP with only my games, and Vista for everyday use. It actualy works out great, I can install loadsa stuff on vista without worrying about it interfearing with game performance.

Apparently Vista game problems are over now and all the drivers get very similar results than XP, but becase Ive come to like my dual boot system with a clean XP Ive decided to continue to use it, I like it so much that i think i will always do it from now on.

So Vista is good in my opinion, I actually dislike using XP for general stuff now as I have become reliant on the little features of vista.

So when did this happen?"

Just now suck it up fan boy"
Lol,  idiot.

When the 360 is a closed system it power and storage options do NOT change, the are the same as the day it came out, so are the PS3's.
Dumb ass.

And system ports will not go away, its not viable to do so, a developer wanting to build a game on a multiple platforms builds the game once and then ports it to the rest, its not plausable for them to rebuild the game for every single system.

In most cases the 360 is used as the base because it has 3 large CPU cores and code for that can be converted to the PS3's 7 smaller cores easier than program written for 7 small cores can be converted for use on 3 large cores.

And this is also the reason why first party and titles developed exclussively for a single platform alway look an run better, as they dont have to make their code multiplatform.

just as a note,  they arent called laptops,    ive just cleaned mine (dust settles inside the fans every so often causing it to get a bit too hot, so i take it apart and clean it), yesterday when doing so i actually read one of the sticker on the bottom for the first time and it says,

"Caution! This surface is hot, avoid bodily contact and DO NOT place on LAP when in use."
It just made me chuckle when I read it.
So, Gaming Laptops, not for your lap.

sorry, just thought some might get a laugh out of it.

And just like the others say, If your willing to pay the extra money a gaming Notebook is awesome, like i said before, I spent alot of money on mine and could have spent half for the equivelant PC, but i havent regretted it one bit, even if your dont take it out of your home, you can still use it in any room you want, whenever you want.

There is really any downsides apart from the lack of upgradability and cost.
Its just how much do you value being able to play wherever you want to.

And ps. alot of people keep mentioning you need to get a good mouse,  but really come on, thats the same for a PC, you still need a mouse for gods sake, so it shouldnt be part of the issue.

its not unsafe though.

and to be honest, wifi security isnt exactly a big issue for home users.

obvousily depends where you live and what kinda house you have,  but if you live in say a detached house you can set your wifi so that its signal does even cross your proporty line so people literally need to be on your proporty.

but again, unless you are stupidly security mad, then WEP is fine.
Im an IT exoert, and a Network engineer, and I dont actualy bother with encryption at all, just a MAC filter.
But I also live in a old house with thick walls made from the famous Accrington Brick,  so my wireless signal isnt goin anywhere.

Like Epic said, all standard DS games so far only support WEP not WPA, so you either change your security settings or miss out.
Plus Im not 100% but i think the official nintendo dongle would still allow serious hacker into you system, if they wanted it enough.

But even for normal wifi hacking, actual data snifing (then looking at the data you send n recieve) is actually very rare in the wide scheme of things.

I dont know how much the official nintendo dongle is,  but im guessing it not cheap.
If you really insist on your WPA security, then it could potentially be cheaper to get a cheap additional wireless point of ebay or summot for a tenner, and set that up with WEP just for your DS.
