Any business owners on Giantbomb?

I won't plug mine here or anything, I was honestly just looking for some advice. I'm in college right now but ever since things have picked up with the company, my heart isn't in school anymore. I feel like I could focus and make a quicker path to greater success outside of the classroom.

So has anyone else been through something similar and wish they made a different choice somewhere along the way? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I'm sort of shooting in the dark as it is.

Haven't owned my own business but I consider myself pretty knowledgeable with that area. Finish school.

People are fickle, customers are fickle, things change. Your education, degree, and more importantly experiences will be with you for longer.

@bretthancock:

I understand what you're saying. I'm just afraid that if I don't focus on it, things might not go as well as they could. As in I might hinder it more than necessary.

Your role in the company, what industry it's in and what it's doing for you are paramount to the discussion.

But for some vague advice, don't let school hold you back on your education. What are you going to school for? Just to say that you have a fancy degree?

If the company is in something you love or something you'd really like to ride out into retirement if you could. Or even if you have a stake in seeing how it ends, fuck it man just go for it.

Worst case scenario, what? You lose out on a year that you could put on a resume and get back into college.

I own a grocery store. I would say stick with school it is always good to have a back up plan. Even though personally I didn't because I thought that is what was right for me but just as general advise, I say stay in school.

@Doctorchimp:

The company is a web hosting/development network, and we're building infrastructure to move into telecommunications and computer manufacturing. My role is legally CFO. Additionally, I manage advertisements for the time being.

Education as in what you actually learn is the most important, but if you find yourself not actually learning much and all that schooling is to just to get you is just a piece of paper called a degree, that is not worth it then.

A degree is proof to others that you can solve problems, it can only help you

@James_ex_machina: And countless more dropped out of school, and it didn't turn out so well. So many things can go wrong, you should stay in school so that if something goes wrong, you can still get a good job.

Yeah i own a company... a little company named Google. No biggie :P.

Dude if your CFO that probably means the company is tiny... finish school don't be a moron. Small company= little to no career prospects, and if you transfer to a big one, without a degree employers can legally promote other's in your place even if your better. If your planning on starting your own business... then sure but that's the only exception.

I think the chance of coming up with something revolutionary and making millions is fairly rare.

Odds of doing so look like they are worse than winning at slots in Vegas.

I always love when people namedrop successful people as an argument for dropping out. Yeah, two were successful. Now count how many dropped out and ended up asking "You want fries with that?" then stay in school long enough to learn how to calculate the odds of a dropout being successful.

I gave an example of a few extremely successful people. There are a million more that have success with limited or no college degrees. Drive, motivation and effort will take you a long way in life. Go with what works for you. I just gave an example I did not say you must quit school.
I can't keep track of the number of designers with college degrees that regret their degrees. So many of them are scrambling looking for a new field because they can't find steady work. I met a guy with a psych degree who's a sandwich artist at subway. A degree will help you out in many ways but there's NO guarantee it will. To the OP do what works for you. If your business is taking off you can always return to school when you are more successful.

Way to miss the point.

I'm in the business of kicking ass, and I'd say I own that business. Does this count?
