Well, what's left of Shinra does try to redeem itself post FFVII.

That's just a temporary alliance against a common enemy. But now that Sephiroth is no longer around, who knows when Shinra and Cloud will turn on each other?

Probably either Ys or Final Fantasy. The soundtracks to these franchises have been consistently great, with almost each and every game over the last few decades having a great soundtrack.

Here's an interesting book that has recently been released this month:

The Untold History of Japanese Game Developers by John Szczepaniak

It mainly focuses on old-school Japanese games, and I'm pretty interested in checking it out.

That comic strip sums up what I thought about the localization. While the writing and translation were great, the setting change from Japan to America felt very off. The legal system is obviously based on the Japanese system, not the American one. And a lot of the places and clothing obviously look like Japan, not America. I understand the localizers wanted to reach out to a wider American audience, but it just made things feel a bit off, with the characters speaking like it's America when it obviously looks like Japan. With that said, that's pretty much my only criticism of what is otherwise an excellent localized script.

I've actually played all of those games, although I didn't get very far in any of them. Here's another great SNES RPG that most Squaresoft fans probably never played:

Also never released outside of Japan, this is an epic that starts off kind of like Romancing Saga 3, with a choice of multiple characters, each with their own story perspective. However, each character is from a different place and time in history (prehistoric times, ancient China, feudal Japan, medieval Europe, American Wild West, present day, near future, space age), and they all eventually cross paths through time-travel. In other words, it's kind of like Romancing Saga 3 meets Chrono Trigger, although it was released before both of them.

@zakn: Sounds similar to me. My dad has also been in a serious condition for a long time, yet he's still with us. But after my uncle died almost a decade ago, I felt really bad for my cousins, and started to realize it could happen to my own dad any time. Since then, I've been pretty close with my dad, and will treasure every moment with my parents, as should anyone whose parents are still with them.

My condolences, Jeff. May your father rest in peace, and best wishes to you and your family for experiencing the loss of a loved one so dear to you.

In the three years I've been here, I still have no idea why this site is called Giant Bomb... Is it something to do with terrorism, or airport security, or Mario?
