I'll Be An Uncle By Tuesday

My youngest brother and his girlfriend have been holding steady for the last nine months, waiting to welcome the first child amongst us three boys (me and my two brothers).  It's an exciting as well as scary time for our family at the moment, as it is a milestone for us all.  It means my brother will know the joys and pains of fatherhood, my parents will know the same as grandparents, and my other brother and I as uncles will be able to spoil that kid rotten and send him back to his parents.  As we have heard today, my brother's girlfriend will be induced on Tuesday if she hasn't had the baby by then.

Our family is not a traditional ideal of American families:  we all still live under the same roof.  I know, I know...  Most 28-year-olds are moved out on their own about a decade before this.  However, when I look a place like China...where it is a tradition and even expected to have three generations under one roof, I realize that we all live in the same house not because we don't want to go out and be on our own.  Instead, it's because we value family more than anything in our lives.  We've always been the people we can rely on most.  Also, I pay a total of about $160 a month for housing, electricity, water, etc...and I don't think anyone can beat that price!

As it stands, there can be no greater Christmas present than having a new life come into your family.

At first, your comment on China sounded racist, but according to Google, it's true. I hate when stereotypes turn out to be right, and it doesn't help that MythBusters is on while I type this.

Babies scare me. They have all these extra brain cells and shit to help them with life after the womb. It's like they're supper human or something. But I think it's awesome you guys stick together, makes me miss my family as I sit in an almost silent house. Do you know if it's a boy or girl?

Congratulations, dude.  I spoil my own niece with video games all the time.  She loves games like Trials HD to Final Fantasy IX to DJ Hero 2 and she's like 7 years old.  Proud uncle here.

Congrats! Hopefully the birth itself is uneventful and devoid of complications. That's the best thing you can ask for.

Been there, done that. I find that nephews are actually pretty boring for the fist 5 years, then once they get old enough for all the cool toys and electronics you have a new buddy to hang out with.

Soooo...

I'M AN UNCLE NOW!

Kyle Ray was born December 28th, 2010  with a weight of 8 lbs 1 oz and a length of 21 inches.  Just from the small moment I met him, he's gonna be a kick ass kind of kid.  Very alert and attentive, not a whiner.

They had to do an emergency C-section, as his head turned and he got stuck in the birth canal.  Likely, given how stubborn our family can be.  He also happened to arrive around dinner time, which says a lot about him being my brother's kid.  My brother always happens to know when people are getting food and shows up at that exact moment, even if it's not any time period for a meal.  It's uncanny.

Very excited at this point.  I'm sooooo ready to spoil the shit out of him and then send him back to mom and dad.
