I haven't subscribed for a year or two now, but honestly I'm tempted to throw some money to Jeff as support and see how fucking weird things will get. Excited for the next few months in this regard.
Best advice for that is to just start watching. You'll pick it up quick and start to get favourites. The weekly shows are:
Monday: WWE Monday Night Raw
Tuesday: WWE NXT
Wednesday: AEW Dynamite
Thursday: IMPACT Wrestling
Friday: WWE Smackdown
Wrestling can always seem intimidating, but announcers and commentators are there along the way to explain what's happening. No YouTube video, documentary or wikipedia page is really going to help you find what you specifically like from the variety show that is pro wrestling.
As you watch, things will become clearer, and you'll work out what rabbit holes you'll fancy going down to find out more.
My suggestion is to watch AEW Dynamite and WWE Smackdown from this past week and see what presentation you like. If you want a single 'one-off' show, my suggestion is AEW Revolution 2020 or WrestleMania 31.
I think there's probably an element, especially early on, of Jeff and co. being considered somewhat explosive in the media space following the GameSpot events and trying to build a brand off the back of that.
I think it had a lot of hype from the VR community. Start checking out some VR-specific sites and maybe check out the Tested coverage? It was discussed and hyped a lot there. I don't believe VR coverage did well for GB in the long run so there's not much of it here anymore. The VR community as a whole feels like its broken off from traditional games media, the same as eSports previously did.
Get Beat Saber, and it’s especially cool if you can open it up by side loading and adding custom tracks into the game. If your kids are interested in Job Simulator, it’s worth grabbing it or the possibly better Vacation Simulator. They’re well-written games but kids love them because they can make their own fun in them. Creed is okay, but Thrill of the Fight is better bang-for-your-buck.
For immersive experiences, try Vader Immortal. The story mode has a lot of cool “moments” if you’re a Star Wars fan and the Lightsaber Dojo Mode gets very interesting and more engaging the further you progress.
Superhot VR is tons of fun and I’ve never seen a disappointed face leave that game. Pistol Whip is cool, it’s kinda like John Wick infused with Superhot and Beat Saber.
I’d check out some of the bigger discounts in the current festive sale. You can get refunds automatically if you haven’t played a game for longer than two hours, so that’s worth giving a go.
It didn't go as planned, took far too long for what it is, and resulting weirdness makes me have no idea if it's good or not. But at least it's uploaded. My first level on SMM2...
Netflix forced me to watch the Funko documentary and it didn't sway me either way. (I wouldn't recommend it tbh. Not half as interesting as the worst Toys That Made Us).
I think their only value comes from variety and roster depth. I like looking at them, even though the ones I own definitely go in a bag with the rest of them. They are so fucking overexposed, but there's something hilarious about a cling-film wrapped Laura Palmer sitting at the front of a family toy store.
Apple has prevented apps from having their own internal app store, or ways to buy products without direct integration in the app store, for the lifespan of the App Store. Comixology and tons of other apps have always had this issue. It makes sense though, honestly. I think there must be a way to move forward that limits access to buying new games but still allows access to pre-purchased ones.
I think when full on game streaming becomes a big deal, and it's kinda almost there, the Steam Link ultimately could be pushed as a defacto product. Steam just needs to stop half-assing its hardware both in terms of retail and pricing (disposable prices in sales, etc) and maybe add in some VOD services. This app solution feels like yet another way for them to get 50% of the way there without really giving the push it needs.
