Vegetable_Side_Dish: I haven't heard the Unicorn's song! Who is it by? my name is based on my first and last name, and also fuelled by the fact that I hate things touching my elbows! (I worry that something will get stuck in the join hehe!) Also I laugh a lot, hence tickling funny bone and jelly elbows.

Yeah that sounds about right- I feel that I'm strongest in concept rather than design (an odd statement coming from a designer!), so maybe a concept artist would be right up my street! I applied for some work experience at Rockstar Leeds (England) but they didn't get back to me- I'm not surprised, they must be massively busy!

Does anybody know any other games design studios based in England?

Hey everyone!

I'm a graphic design student and I was wondering if anybody knew what kind of jobs there are within games design? I don't actually want to design the game (characters, levels etc) but are there designers hired specifically for designing signage within games (eg The advertisements on the walls in TF2). It'd be so cool to work for a games company!

Hey Everyone!

I'm currently studying Graphic Design at university, and I am to write an extended essay on a subject of my choice (centred around design and the media etc).
I have chosen to write about video games, but exactly what I should narrow my subject down to, I'm not sure! I thought that exploring how and why people are willing to pay money for 'unreal' commodities (such as weapons, maps etc!) would be intersting, but I'm also interested in how games and their 'extras' are advertised. I'd then consider how advertising differs between the mainstream and subcultures (although it seems that game subcultures are becoming mainstream!), internal and external ads, and between 'regular' and new gamers- how do they get 'first-time' gamers interested? I know this still seems pretty vague, but if anyone has any ideas as to where I could take it or an area I should focus on, it would be a massive help!
