The iPhone I'm (Still) Waiting For

O2 and Apple's tagline for the iPhone 3G over here is "The iPhone you've been waiting for", referring to the fact many people here in the UK were holding out for the 3G speeds and whatnot to bring the backend hardware up to similar levels to competing smartphones. Unfortunately, I'm still waiting for it.
You see, being under 18, I cannot sign a contract for the phone, nor do I want to be tied down to one anyway. So I need it on Pay/Go. To my delight, O2 have said all along that iPhone 3G will be coming to their Pay/Go tariff. Now, myself and others in my position were kinda disappointed when O2 confirmed it was not to be available Pay/Go at launch, but we got over it.
I'm now hoping to buy it in October since I get paid twice that month (Once near the start and once 4 weeks later) and my birthday is in the middle(ish) making me cash-rich by the end of it. Thing is, I still don't even know if it will be available by then. O2 have failed to open their mouths on the issue since launch. It's getting to be annoying. I want to know just when I need to be ready. There are a number of things I want to do with the iPhone which get less useful the longer I ahve to wait to start.
I gotta tell you, O2 better be reasonable with the pricing after this delay. I need the 16GB version, but there's no way they're getting away with charging more than, at the very highest, £369 for it. Ideally, that would actually be a 32GB model (By that I mean, it's possible Apple are going to replace the 8/16 models with 16/32 at the same prices at some point between now and the Pay/Go launch. I'm not counting on it though).
The tariff better be reasonable too. 10p texts, 10p/minute calls, £10/month for unlimited data is pretty reasonable as far as I'm concerned.
One of the things I want to do with my iPhone 3G is use it to keep track of my classes at school. Basically, I'm putting them into iCal and syncing them to it, so then I'd have a nice digital version instead of a writeen one. Another is on the fly directions and one important one is anytime web lookup - I'm increasingly finding myself wanting access to the internet anywhere. Whether it's for news, research or just entertainment.
And yet, until O2 starts to play ball, all of this is but a dream. Come on O2, it's been long enough. And least announce the launchdate and pricing or something.
I'm even willing to go with a black one if I have to.
(Though I'd still prefer the White)
