So this doesn't actually answer the question because it's meant to be a positive thing. But boy, does it annoy me when people talk around even the basics of specific games because "Everything in this game is a spoiler! Tee hee!" I saw this recently with the rerelease of The Stanley Parable. I just wanted to know what new content was added but had a real tough time because reviewers were trying to be so cute about spoilers. I think it really limits the space to talk about "mystery games" (Outer Wilds is another example) outside of spoiler threads.

Like some other people said, I also don't like "It's X... but with Y" as I think it diminishes whatever Y is doing. Yeah, there are obvious examples of inspiration everywhere, but those comments are still pretty obvious low-hanging fruit.

I just want to be able to buy the old games again. And PS3 still being streaming only is a bummer.

I'm glad people enjoy the game and the post. I've just tried to play again and my save data has been eradicated for unknown reasons. That's one way to kick the habit, I guess......

I really enjoyed my playthrough of LOOM a few years back. During the adventure game heyday, there were plenty of games that sought to "break the mold" with their mechanics to usually mixed results. LOOM is a pretty early game, but I think the staff interface actually works as a fun twist on genre conventions. I even liked consulting the sticky note I had with all the songs. Not that I would want to see the mechanic come back in a big way or anything. There are moments of frustration, but the game is so short that the roadblocks don't weigh on you. I would say it's worth checking out on the next sale, brazenly unfinished story notwithstanding.

Marvel's Spider-Man. Punting dudes off skyscrapers is always a good time.

@bigsocrates:I don't mean to suggest this was part of a grand strategy but rather an improvised one based off of how this all shook out, and the factors you mention. It's a series of dominoes that led to where we are now.

@efesell: 1000%! That's one of the biggest quality of life features the sequel needs. I wanted to get all the collectibles but retreading everywhere was ultimately too much of a pain.

@humanity: @zombiepie: Oh well, game ruined. I vaguely remember looking at that forum post, then rolling over and going back to bed.

I've written a meaty blog review about it some time ago. Long story short, fun gameplay with more depth than you would expect and a high effort story continuing on from Persona 5. Recommended.

Looking ahead at 2022, I was surprised that there isn't much that really excites me for new games. So it might become the Year of the Bucket List, where I make some forward progress in my backlog for once.
