Dead Space : Downfall

I watched the animated movie Dead Space : Downfall the other day, and I'd like to share my thoughts on it. First of all let me say I have not completed the game yet. I just startted chapter 10, so I'm very close. The movie serves as a prequel to the game, along with the comic books. The difference between the comic books and the movie is the comic books cover events on the colony and the movie is set on the USG Ishimura. The bottom line is, it's a fine rental, but it does not warrant a purchase. In fact, I just saw it on the Encore family of cable channels just this last week! How screwy is that?

The major problem I had with it was that it did not reveal a whole lot more than the comic books did. In fact, I'd say the comic books were better. You learn how the alien scourge makes it onto the Ishimura, and also an interesting fact concerning the Marker. The only matter expanded on video logs from the game concerns the Captain's death. The action sequences were good, and the maturity of the subject matter was handled well. This is definitely not for kids. There's a lot of swearing and plenty of gore.

I have become a huge fan of the game, and although the movie didn't detract from my love of it, it didn't increase it either.

Little Big Planet

Does anyone else think that LBP will be a critical success but not a commmercial success? Most of the podcasts I listen to are journalists, and they are all going gaga over it. I can appreciate what it does, but I can't see it appealing to a mass part of the market. I think it's going to be hard for Sony to make people outside of the core understand what LBP is. Here's what I understand up until this point: You can create levels and share levels. That's it. There's really no other goal. It dose nothing for me personally. I'm not a "cute" game kind of guy at all, except for the rare instance (Viva Pinata).  But even in VP, there were tangible goals to hit. I don't think LBP will be a flop, but I don't think it'll sell more than 500k-700k.
