A PS3 Cometh

It's perhaps a bit ironic that I've waited until just before the expected Playstation 4 announcement to buy a damn PS3. Anyway, I have. It was probably for the wrong reasons, but I'll have to live with that.

This is the model that finally entangled me in its web of intrigue. Or something. Anyway:

No Caption Provided

A year and three months of Playstation Plus is what I'll be getting. So, that's cool, right? I have no idea.

I've bought two games with the thing, which are as follows:

  1. Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch
  2. Journey Collector's Edition

They seemed like good choices.

Anyway, yay, I own a system that'll be outdated before the end of the year. I'm so damn responsible with my money.

It'll be on my front porch sometime tomorrow. We'll see how this goes.

Nice purchase, those seem like two pretty great games to get off the bat.

@Gamer_152: Yeah, it was actually Ni no Kuni that really made me go for it, which is weird since my interest in RPGs has always been sporadic at best. But this one seems really good. Do you have a PS3? If so, I'd love some recommendations. Of course most of what's considered good is pretty obvious by now. I'm thinking about the Uncharted Dual Pack.

@JJWeatherman: I don't, but I absolutely would if I had more money. I'd love to play Uncharted or Journey some day.

@Gamer_152: Ah. Perhaps those will all be for sale digitally on the PS4, and you can just buy one of those at some point. That would be pretty nice. I have a feeling that's going to be the case and that I've largely wasted my money, ha.

@JJWeatherman: I think you're right about the digital downloads, whether I'll be able to afford a PS4 and the next Xbox (Nexbox?) is another issue though. Oh well, as far as your purchase goes, I'm sure there are worse things in the world than playing PS3 games for a year.

@Gamer_152: I suppose that's true. And I actually am not really too excited aout the idea of buying a console at launch due to how this last launch went hardware-wise. What a mess. So I guess it was an okay time to buy. Also, I guess I'll have a year and four months of Playstation Plus, not three. Journey apparently comes with another month. That's potentially a lot of value.

Anyway. I'm sure you'll have somewhere in the ballpark of a decade to buy a PS4 once that's out, so it'll happen eventually. :)

@JJWeatherman: Yeah, you're right. Personally, I'm very excited to see the new consoles, but I doubt there'll be anything in the launch line-up which makes me go "I need to get one of these things immediately".

@Kidavenger: I'd nearly forgotten about Heavy Rain. Thanks.

The thing just arrived a little bit ago, so I'm installing updates now. I look forward to jumping in.

Considering the rumored differences in hardware for PS4 (is it confirmed that PS4 won't use Cell processor? I forget), backward compatibility seems unlikely to me, so the PS3 might not be that bad a purchase.

@Bigandtasty: I believe it's as confirmed as can be without actually being confirmed, yes. That's a good point. But I'd have to imagine they'd work for some backwards compatibility, even if only with digital versions.

Anyway, I've played a couple of hours of Ni no Kuni and spent the rest of my time trying to get my head around the ecosystem. Seems pretty cool, but wow are menus slow in spots. Sony should try following Apple's lead and make smooth interaction a top priority.

Hey JJ! I'm also a late adopter of the PS3 system - got it as a gift during the holidays! :) This isn't necessarily a bad thing for us, unless we're looking for obscure games! We can find a lot of gems for cheapish! :)
