Technomancer - Mid-tier by definition and execution 2

Technomancer is a great mid-tier game in a time of either indie or AAA. In this landscape of huge budgets or homegrown tales of scrapping a game together with shoestrings and duct tape, there’s an opportunity for gaps to be filled. Spiders bring us a competent Sci-Fi RPG that gives depth, interesting mechanics, and challenging combat with a clear progression. What it lacks in a few technical hiccups, control frustrations, and lack of weight behind decisions it makes up for in the ability f...

Adr1ft – Solitary Space 0

Adr1ft is one of the most gorgeous and awe-inspiring games I’ve seen in a long while. The foreground of a space station in earth orbit that has sustained heavy damage with a backdrop of a beautiful globe that transitions from day to night and back again before your eyes is simply incredible. Unfortunately a lackluster mission structure that repeats itself and story that’s only slightly interesting compound to make an already short experience feel all the shorter by the lack of meat o...

MLB The Show 16 – Top Prospect 0

MLB games are a waning breed in 2016, with only Sony San Diego putting out a contender for the pennant. While the games that offer a solid MLB simulation are not only few and far between, but limited to one single entry, it’s important that entry really bats the run home. Fans of America’s pastime can breathe easy, as MLB The Show 16 delivers yet another base knock. MLB The Show 16 doesn’t tweak what works well for them, instead opting to pipe in new features and modes that off...

Review: Dark Souls 3 (PC) – Beautiful, brutal, and exceptionally executed 0

Disclosure - wrote this review for another site but time has passed and I don't see a ton of DSIII reviews here on the site. Cross-posting so please let me know if inappropriate but hopefully it helps potential buyers. Also of note is that this is my first true Souls experience, so purists may differ in opinion. Enjoy :)THUMBS UP. LET'S DO THIS. Cannot unsee after listening to the Bombcast. Damn you all. Dark Souls 3 is a complete and focused experience that will convert the non-believers and ...

Review: Far Cry Primal – Brutal in the BC 1

Far Cry Primal is a perfect example of taking what works, implementing enhancements, and not subtracting from the formula. With scenes of absolute beauty, visceral brutality, and touching emotional notes, Primal does some interesting things and ultimately proves itself a valid and welcome offshoot to the series. Much in the vein of Blood Dragon before (albeit a very different game), Far Cry Primal is a solid all-around and fleshed out addition to the franchise. Although it doesn’t necessar...

Review: Street Fighter V (PS4) – Ponder your fist 0

Street Fighter V is a beautiful, technically superb fighting game that does some extremely interesting things to make matches not just fun to play, but also fun to watch. There’s nothing really like seeing a great player of a great game excel in crazy ways. Looking up Daigo Umehara and Justin Wong fights from the past, or any other of the greatest fights in Street Fighter history is some of the most inspiring and instantly respected surfing one can do in the realm of competitive games. Str...

Review: Dying Light: The Following Enhanced Edition – Octane and the Occult 0

Disclaimer: My review was posted elsewhere but I really enjoyed this game, not perfect but it truly does enhance the experience of an already very solid game and adds some interesting if not necessary components. Dying Light was a bit of a surprise to many. We all knew it was coming, but weren't sure if Techland had learned lessons gone by or if the slight jank present inDead Island would rear it's ugly head, and the novelty would wear off with the team's new effort. Most, including myself wer...

Review: Wasteland 2: Director’s Cut – This Land is My Land 0

Wasteland 2 Director’s Cut is the throwback fans deserve, on a new console, with updated visuals, dialog, voice acting, and generally more everything. Those wanting a hand held experience that walks through the intricacies of what made games like Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout Tactics, and other isometric RPG’s of the PC golden years won’t find it here – as Wasteland 2 holds a tutorial, but not much beyond that in terms of a kindergarten approach. Challenging, dense, and sy...

Review: NBA Live 16 – Mid-Range Shooter 0

NBA Live 16, at its core is a decent basketball game, but never really goes above and beyond that. It offers some great mix ups in the Pro-Am and Rising Start modes, allowing the player to make some great choices that affect their custom player’s life, but a mind-boggling scoring system, audio cut-out, and general glitches keep this year’s hoopster from truly taking the title.Feature rich, but foundation foulsNBA Live 16 is on the heels of the struggling past few entries, and some r...

FIFA 16 - The Equalizer 0

Annualized franchises, especially in sports, can be tough to innovate on year after year, and iteration after iteration might feel stale or marginally enhanced. FIFA 16 takes the issues of past games and cleans them up, allowing the game to feel like a true representation of a match, while also throwing incredible depth in modes like Ultimate Team, as well as Career. The result is a complete package that doesn’t have the weird physics glitches of years past, and is an overall incredible g...

Mad Max – Conflicted Chaos 0

Mad Max is an exercise in conflict, both in the game world in a sense of lore, and mechanics. Set in a gorgeously realized wasteland with changing weather, visceral hand to hand combat, and some incredibly fun diversions like convoys, these pros are offset with cons of frames dropping, repetitive combat, and some general feeling that you’ve seen this all before in another game.Disclosure: I wrote this here fancy review for another site that I do quite a bit of reviewing for, seeing the ga...

Destiny: The Taken King - Assume the Throne 0

Destiny: The Taken King feels like the game Bungie wanted to put forth a year ago. Cinematics with weight, set pieces reminiscent of the glory days in the Halo franchise, and first person action blending with RPG elements in the right way that make Destiny a true feeling of belonging and instills a desire to continue the fight. Destiny 2.0 looks like to start the games second year strong, and does so.Quick Disclosure - this is first off a review of Destiny: The Taken King DLC and how it enhance...

Review: Blues and Bullets Episode I: The End of Peace – Moody Blues 0

Disclosure - this is essentially a copy/paste review that I wrote for a site that I do reviews for fairly frequently - I found this game not getting a ton of press and thought with the Quick Look on GB it might be nice to get another view in there. Won't post the site here but it's in my profile for the curious, also always appreciate feedback and critique! Blues and Bullets aims to be a true noir story told with stylistic choices and direction that make it stand out, offering choice, consequen...
