Energy drinks are messed up, and now so am I!

I needed to fix a broken sleeping pattern, so I stayed awake throughout the night, and all of the day, with some Monster energy drinks.  I've only ever had energy drinks to keep me up a little longer when gaming with a friend, but never like this.  It's pretty messed up.  Also, a couple nights ago I did several hours (4-5 hours) of juggling practice and cycling (couldn't sleep and I've got bike lights so whatever), so my body is kind of dead from that already.  When doing homework my hands were literally shaking, and I felt out of breath, and I felt like maybe my body really shouldn't be awake right now... so I checked my heart rate with a cycling heart rate monitor, and just sitting still, resting, it was a steady 80-81 bpm, when it should be 60!  Ugh... never again, and it didn't fix my sleeping pattern either.

I'm all out (even though I found a totally forgotten one in the fridge), and the corner store is closed, and I don't feel like going out to the gas station.

The best thing to do is to let your body crash and when you are tired just take a nap. Your body will gain some energy from that and eventually you will be back on your normal sleep pattern. That is how it worked for me.

I know what you mean. A couple of years ago my boss and a colleague went to Melbourne for a work thing and left me to run the place (rot) while they had a great mini vacation. I was burning the candle at both ends and drank 20 odd Mothers one 16+ hour day to keep me going. At the time it was great but later on I seriously thought I was about to have a fuckin' heart attack or something.

You'll be fine. One time in college I kept myself awake for two nights with amphetamines (had a prescription so I guess it wasn't technically illegal). I smoked a ton of cigerates, didn't eat hardly anything and by the end I found myself just hoping somebody would come up to me and start some shit because I found myself wanting to get into a fight with everyone I saw. So yea, obviously I don't recommend this course of action. Just go to sleep.

You would probably have passed out or almost died from caffeine poisoning if you had drunk 20 energy drinks in one day.

For someone who's obviously into being physically fit, you shouldn't drink them anyway. WAYYYY too bad for you. They're practically the equivalent of drinking 3 sodas. I would like to drink them myself, but I gain weight too easily, and they were causing me a lot of stomach cramps after a few months of daily drinks.

I did that once, then went to my lectures the next day. I slept through a good portion of them!

Wasn't that stuff endorsed by Lara Croft herself? I'm sure I saw an ad in a magazine once, featuring both of these things.

I stay up all night and the following day pretty often. In my opinion energy drinks should in that case(36+hrs) only be used when staying awake gets real tough. For me that time is at about 4-5am and after these few hours I feel like I could keep on going without a problem.
E: Also a quick 15 minute nap helps out a lot. If you sleep more than 15 minutes you probably find it really tough to get up and you'll still feel exhausted.

Have fun with you withdrawls if you keep that up. I certainly loved them... Constant headaches and feeling so lethargic without caffeine. Shit sucked. I needed a Red Bull for breakfast. Thank God I gave them up and haven't had any energy drinks since.

I can't imagine this at all.  I regularly drank 1 or 2 energy drinks a day for a couple of years.  It like barely gives a bit more clarity for me upon waking up.  I've been known to chug an energy drink and fall asleep right afterwards anyways.  It sucks.  Now that I've kind of ruined them I really only use them to enhance my intoxications.

It's weird because this is how I've always been with energy drinks, like I have ZERO sensitivity to stimulants. The funny thing is I have never drank coffee or any other caffeinated beverage regularly at any point in my life.

Yeah, I've never drank coffee or soda or anything on the regular either.  And it isn't like I was ever addicted to it, I never had headaches, it was easy to stop drinking them.  I don't know.  But definitely ymmv, I know people that will go nuts if they don't drink a cup of coffee every few hours or so.

No they all taste like that.
But when you want to wake up, getting hit with that cold bitter taste seems to work well.

Well,  I have a sure fire off to sleep method,
It's called marijuana.   Smoke 1 joint to your head wait 30-60 minutes, Pass the fuck out.
It only works really well when your body is tired to begin with, Which would be perfect for you right now.

Edit:
Which would HAVE been perfect for you TWO DAYS AGO
lol

I love Energy Drinks, they just never seem to do anything for me.  I'll pick one up to drink with lunch sometimes, but it's just the same as if I drank some juice or a soda.  I just don't really get affected by them.

Not true,
NOS tastes pretty good, The Red AMP (Overdrive?) is ok, And Monster "Assault" isn't bad.
Red Bull does taste like ass, And has fuck all in the way of stimulants in it, Compared to the above anyway.

Its possible to be addicted to any drug, even caffeine. I used to have a huge problem with energy drinks until one day my heart stopped beating for about 5 seconds. Never again, i just drink two cups of coffee every morning and im good.

I know, I actually think they taste good, it's just if someone has never had one before, they'll probably be shocked by the strong bitter and sugary taste.
and as for the marijuana from your other post, I don't smoke or drink, so I'm just going to have to continue chugging these energy drinks until I get back on track.  I hear the trick is to set your wake up time.  So I'm going to let myself fall asleep, then force myself up at 6 AM, and chug energy drinks all day.  I'll let myself fall asleep at like 10 PM, but it'll take several days of forcing my sleep patterns until it works apparently.

I wouldn't force the wake up,
I find the best way to get back on track is to just stay up as late as possible then pass out in the most comfortable place you can and sleep until you wake up naturally, Making sure NOTHING will wake you up.  Your body will rest as long as it needs to to reset your internal clock and then you just go to bed at your normal time that night, Even if your not tired.

Honestly, though, I'd say man up and take some amphetamines if you really want to control your sleep.

Na, that was my plan to begin with.  I stayed awake all night and day with the energy drinks, and let myself fall asleep at 10 PM.  Then I woke up at 1 AM, which is common when I try to fix a sleeping pattern.  I can't just fall asleep for 8 hours nice and easy, even though I am extremely tired, I'll be wide awake in a few hours.  But in those few hours my sleep is much deeper than any other time.  Waking up it feels like I just slept for a week, but it doesn't fix anything.

@nanikore: Back then Mothers werent the same kind of drink they are now, they were like this shitty tasting cordial type thing. Like a piss weak a piss weak Red Bull or something. They tasted awful and I only bought them ones because they were being heavily reduced to push them into the market. You could drink a lot more of them then your standard energy drink. Not any more though, they re-jigged to be more like a Red Bull in a massive can.

Dexadrine is a very coarse dose of amphetamine, I've got pretty bad ADD and been on a few things. Unless you're going to crush the dexadrine and rail it for the high, I suggest finding somebody prescribed Vyvanse or Adderall XR, which are much more common, anyway.

Less addiction, more substance dependency. Feed your body enough of anything for a given amount of time and it will adapt itself to the presence of that substance. If you suddenly rip that substance away, the body has to adapt a lot faster, and that's often not very pretty.

@Barrock: The coffee-flavored ones by monster and Starbucks don't taste all that much like coffee, but they can definitely be good.  As for the OPs issues, it sounds to me like his body isn't accustomed to caffeine in general.  Most people who drink energy drinks used to drink a lot of coffee or coke or such and it isn't such a big step up.  For me, I drink an energy drink and I feel slightly more hyper than comfortable, but I can drink one totally for pleasure without adverse effects.  Drinking too many, as I have sometimes, definitely feels kind of crappy, though.

Pro-tip: Don't try to correct your sleeping pattern by abusing substances. Your behavior is the reason things get banned. All it takes is your death and some jerk reporter and everyone suffers the consequence of lowered caffeine in all of our products because it will be assumed that if you're doing it, so are we.

I used to drink a Bookoo energy drink every morning (360 mg caffeine, 710ml can) followed by a cup of coffee.  I think I'm completely immune to caffeine now.

It's funny that energy drink companies promote their products as being great for athletes , when in reality it's the complete opposite . Energy drinks are NOT good when doing physical activity. One time my sister had one can of red bull and her trainer at the gym refused to let her train because of her blood pressure or some shit.
