A great read. I remember when this came out, my friends got really into it but I could not find the appeal. Hopefully a modern version of this style of game could happen that allows the community creation across all the modern systems.
@savage: Ah my mistake. I thought when you did the tutorial on TF2 classic (as in before all the class updates they rolled out) that Gabe spoke about what to do. Sorry.
Team Fortress 2 tutorials spring to mind. You don't see him, but Gabe N talks through how to play the game and gives you his email to provide feedback.
This does tend to sum up how I feel about Doom 3. I did turn up to the game late however (I think the BFG edition on Xbox 360 was where I first played it) so perhaps this is why I do not enjoy it on a personal level as much as I did when I played the original Doom game (as I played that much closer to it's launch period).
