This game ranks up there as one of the best RPGs in recent times. 0

My main concern when I decide to pick up an RPG is making sure it's made by a trustworthy developer. RPGs are a tempestuous kind, they often have bugs and problems shipped with it, even the ones made by the so called top developrs of the genre. Sure, The Wither's developer is unknown and the game is not free of mishaps, though h I guess we can account CD Projekt Red as a developer to look forward when it comes to RPGs, and the problems can be overcome. Overall The Witcher is amazing and stands ...

Fast and adrenaline-fueled, the way it should be. 0

Arcade racers are my favorite kind of racers, nothing beats the adrenaline-fueled or reckless driving not caring if the next corner will serve as a straightener, a crashing point, or both; that's what gaming is all about. Burnout Paradise pleases me with its approach, it's an arcade racer by heart, and it's not afraid to admit that, actually, it practically shouts proudly for everyone to know it. The controls pretty much tell you that, to help cornering a simple push at the break button and you...

Masochistic fun. 0

This generation of games has been nice for indie game developers, the scene is becoming increasingly more democratic with digital distribution, that's a good thing for gamers since there are many talented developers around that never got the chance to go big. Meat Boy started off as a flash game, it quickly drew attention, it had its strong points, a real release was inevitable in this fitting scenario. Two years later the world was presented to Super Meat Boy, a full-length game that strives f...

Jolly Rover is a fun little game. 0

To start off, I'm going to say I highly enjoyed Jolly Rover, part of this might be due to the fact I didn't have high expectations when I started playing, I thought it would be a decent game (in the best scenario) that I would have to force myself to finish and hopefully pass some time, it ended up being not like that at all, I even hoped the game was a bit longer, but I do have in mind that it's not sufficient having a longer game simply to theoretically keep the player playing but failing to ...

When fresh ideas reign to reestablish a beloved genre. 1

It's good to know that 2D platforming is still alive, Nintendo for quite a while decided to deny the awesomeness of this kind of game, ever since the Super Nintendo days were over, but a game that was fun will always be fun. With the Wii Nintendo realized it was unreasonable to go hand-to-hand against its competitors, because they'll always win, so a more simplistic approach was a great opportunity to bring back fun like we used to have. Kirby's Epic Yarn succeeds at that, it brings up-to-date ...

A worthy closure for the trilogy. 0

The trilogy has reached an end, three successful titles for the DS, each with its own soul. Dawn of Sorrow stands as the closest to the roots of Castlevania series, the darkest Castlevania and the title that opened the way and set the standards for the next two. Portrait of Ruin, one more step into innovation, two characters at the same time on screen, a slightly better story, non-castle locations, challenge system, and even more unlockables. And now we have Order of Ecclesia, which also has a ...

Castlevania continues strong on the DS. 0

Castlevania Portrait of Ruin is the second iteration of the Castlevania series on the Nintendo DS, the first one, Dawn of Sorrow, released in late 2005, was a success, at least critically the game was highly acclaimed. This sequel, released a little more than a year later at the end of 2006, follows primarily the formula and style found in Dawn of Sorrow, with more than needed new stuff to keep it interesting and fresh. The major change here seems to be the addition of a new character to play s...

This is one of the best adventures the DS has to offer. 0

Castlevania is a series that's home of many classics from the past, its unique style has led to a legion of fans. In the handheld world, Castlevania shows itself in its purest form. This game is a hybrid of 2D platforming, action, suspense, horror and RPG. The platforming is not conventional, most games have a finite way of seeing 2D platforming, as of starting in the far left and enduring the level to reach the far right. Castlevania has a whole world in 2D side-scrolling, certainly this is no...

Another one of those crazy ideas that succeed. 0

It's hard to find a truly original idea these days, between every first person shooter or RPG that does little to nothing in terms of bringing new stuff to the table we find a game that actually strikes us with innovation, out of the ordinary. Maybe the last big innovative idea was Portal, it was charming, simple and fun. World of Goo is all that as well, it succeeds in its simplicity, you have little ball-shaped organisms called Goos and they form structures of all kinds and shapes, it's up to...

One of the most sublime experiences in gaming, remade. 0

I remember like it happened yesterday, a cloudy day, a little rain might had poured, a special program about children with cancer on the TV, people going crazy on the streets because of the elections, but none of that really had my attention, the only thing I could think of was about the new Pokemon for the Game Boy Color. Oh yes, hundreds of hours down the toilet and I was up for more, I was up to waste a much bigger chunk of my life holding that tiny green electronic thingy with a screen. I a...

Layton and his assistant are back with new mysteries and puzzles. 0

The Nintendo DS is infested with puzzle games, but in my opinion only a handful of them is quite as interesting as the Professor Layton series. It mixes well thought-out puzzles with a story that's light but still with the right dose of depth. The characters are charismatic and fit the purpose of the game. This is the second game of the series released in English language and the follow-up to Professor Layton and the Curious Village, released in 2008.To tell the truth, this game is pretty much ...

Great for newcomers, frustrating for anyone else. 0

Well, it's not like I wasn't expecting this, it would actually be a surprise if was otherwise, which would then leave me shocked, but a man can always hope. To cut a long story short, Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 is almost the same game Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 is, so few things have changed that it's absolutely not worth the purchase if you already have the last year's release -- or the 2008 version for that matter. If you've never played a Wii release for this series this stands as the best yet,...

Just can't get enough of Mario. 0

Such a simplistic formula and so much fun delivered, it's hard to explain the magic of Super Mario Bros since most of us have memories of childhood etched on each game of the series. It's not hard to get excited every time a main Mario game is announced -- taking out the spin-offs with Mario playing tennis, golf or throwing a party, not that these games are bad. New Super Mario Bros Wii at first glance seems a carbon copy of the rejuvenated game released for the DS, which by the way was awesome...

Solid Need for Speed with a nice dose of new gameplay elements. 0

In 2003 Need for Speed Underground was being released, and it was awesome. You got the chance to drive cars you otherwise wouldn't even touch in real life at incredible speeds you wouldn't even dream of achieving. It had that "Fast and Furious" kind of charm, you start the game, get a cheap-ass car, start racing, tune the ride, improve the car, more speed, more tracks, and so on. Need for Speed: Most Wanted comes after the second Underground and it's clear this really shouldn't be named simply ...

Valve has made us an offer we just can't refuse. 0

Maybe what Valve thought on doing was simple. They had Half-Life, a "good-ass" game like some would say, they had two expansions for Half-Life only available for PCs, and they had Team Fortress 2, which is a multiplayer game with some interesting game mechanics. You add Portal, the one exclusive barely-released game and we have a deal, a great deal. Adding such good games at a reasonable price, a price of one actually, sounded too good to be true; maybe not quite, but it was damn good. They act...

A solid entry, even though needing some tweaks and improvements. 0

Pro Evolution Soccer for the Wii might be one of the very few examples on when a franchise actually fitted better on the Nintendo's console than the others. As we can see, not by much tweaking, more because of convenience; and, of course, a couple of great ideas here and some other quite good ones there, some are still raw and need improvement, but the overall product ended being fine, and pretty satisfying. You won't find a soccer game that handles better than this one, you may find a better loo...

A return to gaming roots. 0

When I first heard about this new game with a new direction in the Mega Man series I thought to myself: "Genius!". After all, let's be serious here, technology advancement wasn't easy on Mega Man. The old days were glorious for this franchise, but it never actually adjusted itself for the newer consoles, 3D or anything like that. Mega Man's deal is 2D platforming, plain and simple. That's why the best more recent Mega Man games are exclusively found on handhelds, where gaming has still a lot to ...

Pure adrenaline! 0

Pure is a game developed by Black Rock Studio and published by Disney Interactive Studios. I know what you're thinking, you're thinking that you didn't know Disney was out out there actually publishing good games, but this time it's actually true. Pure is good indeed, not just good, this game is awesome. Between the time spent releasing a High School Musical game or whatever other cash-in release for the DS or the Wii, they've actually managed to do something right.Pure is a racing game with an...

This is more than enough to get you back to Oblivion. 0

We all know Oblivion's flaws - the constant freezing, some annoying bugs and the fact it reaches an end eventually - and with this expansion pack one of the flaws can be postponed. So anyone who liked Oblivion should have this, no matter how, especially since the game of the year's edition is being shipped with both expansions - Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine - which makes it an even more essential deal. You can also purchase at the fine Xbox Live Arcade or at a store in a physical purc...

Classic fighting game with great multiplayer and online features! 0

Yes, a classic fighting game nicely ported for the DS, and with Wi-Fi features! Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 must be one of my favorites Mortal Kombat of all, the only bad thing I can think about the Super Nintendo release is the absence of animalities, they're so cool, but they took it off. Well this one doesn't suffer from that, you get the whole deal, fatalities, animalities, friendships, babalities, pit fatalities and everything. The multiplayer is cool, the online wi-fi is great, you can play...

Devil May Cry 4 is a decent game with good moments of action.. 0

Devil May Cry reaches its fourth installment, seems like yesterday that a canceled Resident Evil 4 project was shut down and then revitalized as a new series. And a series that worked great. Many Resident Evil gameplay fragments remain intact or toned down. Devil May Cry is the first game to grace the HD generation and ends up being a success. This new entry presents a new main character, called Nero, but don't worry because soon enough the series' long known protagonist will make his presence kn...

This game will overwhelm you with relentless action. 0

I first had contact with this game when I bought my Xbox 360 in the beginning of 2009, I used my one month free gold subscription to play online, and with that I could download some demos, one of these demos was Geometry Wars, I was blown away instantly. This game is simple, very simple, the goal is to shoot things up while not getting hit by them. Sounds easy on paper, but the actual game proves to be much of a challenge, just like how games used to be when steep difficulty was the only feature ...

Not dark and gory as the previous games, but still awesome. 0

Another installment of the wonderful series Resident Evil is finally upon us. Resident Evil 5 follows the formula of the previous game, Resident Evil 4, and creates another masterpiece. Resident Evil 4 showed unprecedented gameplay and controls never seen before in the franchise, and this revolution on the way Resident Evil is played seemed as the natural path for the series to take from that moment on.Resident Evil started off as survival horror, which means that you find yourself mostly alone ...

A Tales game by the book, but a great experience nonetheless. 0

Tales of Vesperia is another entry to the beloved Tales Of series. It's the series' first appearance in the high definition world of gaming and ultimately shows itself as being an expected but also enjoyable Tales game. This is pretty much your average Japanese-styled RPG experience, and a Tales game extremely by the book, with practically everything you could know about game mechanics from the previous games present along with a whole new adventure. In Tales you are presented to various characte...

Stylish graphics and good online features, but confusing controls 0

It's been quite a while since a Street Fighter has made this much impact in the video-game industry. In fact, the fourth installment might be the real worthy sequel to the classic releases of Street Fighter 2. The Street Fighter name was somewhat living through a series of compilations and other eventual releases, some games were actually good, but none of them captured the true feeling of what was like be playing Street Fighter 2 in all its glory. This game, unlike all the other follow-ups to St...

Basic pinball themed with Metroid Prime's outstanding atmosphere. 0

For those of you who don't know Metroid Prime was released for the Nintendo GameCube sometime in the end of 2002, many doubted Retro Studios could do it but they did it, Metroid Prime is now one of the best games in the history of video-games. The name quickly became recognizable by anyone who had played this masterpiece, it was synonym with quality, and soon enough sequels were released to form a trilogy, including another game for the DS with the same basic scheme. This game, however, is a who...

A crazy game with tight controls, also very addictive and fun. 0

Wow! This game caught me by surprise, due to the high acclaim by some specialized media I was aware that this could be a very fun game, but never imagined it could be this much fun. Claiming that this game is innovative is simplify too much the great dose of weirdness that is found in it. It is so fresh that it ends up being strange, but what it has of strange it has of fun, that's for sure. This is a shoot-'em-up game where you basically has to protect one little thing in the lower-screen of you...

Control Altair in an adventure not as memorable as the original. 0

Assassin's Creed for the DS is a game based on the original hit released primarily for the consoles Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, which later was also ported for PCs. It actually has its story set before the events of the first Assassin's Creed. This game had potential, not only because it had a name that quickly gained immense success written in its box-art generating undoubtedly high expectations whenever a new game is revealed, but also because the developers already made clear that they can cr...

An innovative concept and, while brief, is an amazing experience. 0

Innovation in gaming is something we all appraise. Sometimes just tiny little details of brand new content make up for a purchase, and in the case of Portal the innovation meter can be taken to a whole other level. It's safe to say Portal is like nothing you've ever seen, we hear and read that a lot, but now it might be the right thing to say indeed. It's a first-person shooter, so what else could make up to make this game so different, and so good? Well, some things, actually.Yes, it's a first-...

A great looking game, but also a great game. 0

Crysis has made quite a stir in the gaming world while it was being developed up until the day it was released, the graphics were like nothing that had ever preceded it. When we finally got the chance to play it we realized the hype had a reason to be that high, the graphics are beautiful. One thing is sure, it will take a while until a game comes to dethrone the almighty Crysis from the position of the most graphically advanced game on the market, along with its "brother" Crysis Warhead, releas...

Another Need for Speed, but not your average Need for Speed. 0

Need for Speed Underground was a huge turn-over in the Need for Speed series, many may consider the series divided in before Underground and after Underground. With the first Underground the series achieved considerable mainstream exposition and the games quickly became a commercial success. The recipe was simple, fast-paced street racing with night-time atmosphere, lots of lighting effects contrasting with a slight metropolitan traffic. The formula was victorious, but after several releases wit...

Come in and experience the underground of Liberty City. 0

Grand Theft Auto 4 is surely not a usual game, it was ambitiously executed since the beginning and offers a lot to the player. The game mechanics aren't usual either, you have arguably more freedom in what you're allowed to do or not than any other game. Adding an incredibly engaging story that stands as one of the most convincing ever created along with interesting characters with strong personality and realism, making this an incredible gaming achievement. If you're not familiar with the GTA-ki...

One of the most action-packed games of all time. 0

Gears of War 2 is the direct sequel to Gears of War. It follows the footsteps of the previous game and innovates in aspects that really let you feeling that something has been brought to the table and nothing good about the last game was left out. Of course the main focus of the game is the same, start, pass through some chaotic locations, find some enemies, get cover and fight to proceed. The formula is still fresh and still delivers the fun needed. The game still consists of 5 chapters and the...

Badass game with non-stoppable action. 0

All right, what do we have here? Gears of War? Ok, what does Gears of War has that makes it so good? Well, it's a game that does everything right. It's beyond solid, it's a great game that anyone should play, no matter how much they like shooters or not.First things first, a shooter is a shooter, so you shoot things, it's not nice and it's not pretty; and so isn't this game, unless you think of pretty as being something pretty amazing or pretty good. This game is not cute, this game is badass. ...

Excellent horror-themed game. 0

The horror genre has always been overlooked, sure some games happen to emerge every now and then, but I find that the theme could be a lot more well explored. With the advancement of graphical capabilities, lightning and sound effects the tools for creating creepy atmospheres and gruesome stories also advanced. Dead Space is not exactly your average horror game, but does the job nicely in constructing and maintaining a continuous atmosphere of solitude and suspense. Here you play as a guy named ...

Artistically an achievement, but not for everyone. 0

Assassin's Creed is one of those games that can impress anyone simply by a picture or a video, the amazing visuals come with an excellent and intriguing story. There are two stories happening at the same time, one takes place in the year 2012 when a bartender named Desmond Miles is kidnapped and forced to be the subject of tests for a company, basically one of his ancestors was an assassin and they are doing tests with his DNA to search for remains of memory from this ancestor. Great action game enjoyable by both long time fans and newcomers. 0

So, Ninja Gaiden is back to a Nintendo console with a proper release and for the DS, taking full advantage of the touch screen and other aspects of the handheld, even though not as much, the result is a game that should be played by both long time fans and newcomers to the series. For you to play the game you hold the DS like a book, just like you did with the Brain Age games if you ever played it, with the stylus at hand you control where Ryu Hyabusa will go and attack, the main attack is done...

A very simple game that is perfectly skippable. 0

It's difficult to judge fairly a game made at the beginning of the DS lifespan like this one, well not really, but this one in particular actually, the biggest reason may be that the Nintendo DS strays too much away from everything we had seen on handhelds before, it has a wider field to explore in gaming and allows the possibility of new ways for games to be played, and this game can be seen as a demo of what the system could do, the innovation brought in playing video games and the Nintendo DS...

Nintendo DS is great for these different types of games, which would normally not get any attention in a console, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney is one of those games, it's a very good game if given a chance, and its quality may only be overlooked by someone who really dislikes extremely plot-driven games. One of the most memorable things about this kind of games, are the characters, they have a special depth and transpire a stronger personality than the ones found in other games, you suddenly fe...
