Ahh, the classic story of the computer hacker getting a legitimate job on the security side of things. Heard that one a bazillion times and saw it coming miles away.
I've read somewhere that you Steam should install 1.9 automatically. It needs to be installed before the DX11 patch or else it won't work. Other then that, Not to sure what's going on.
I installed this and the high res pack earlier today. Makes the game look nicer. Everything seems less flat (hurray for tesselation) and the water looks amazing. Overall, very nice upgrade. A hit on performance thought but it's still very playable on my machine with every single eye candy option turned on. My GPU is a GTX 570 at stock speeds and my CPU is an i7 920 overclocked to 3.5 ghz.
This might be a dumb question but does your GPU support DX11? After installing the three patches it should prompt you if you want to turn on DX11 features has soon has you boot up the game.
On my desktop : Windows 7 running natively and I also have Ubuntu 11.04 and Windows XP virtual machines. On my laptop : I managed to set up a triple boot : Mac OS 10.6, Windows 7 and Ubuntu 11.04. I also have Windows XP in a virtual machine on it.
