Sometimes you get interesting twists spoiled for you or miss out on the hype that helped buoy the reception to game. I haven't listened to many of the 2017 GOTY podcasts because I still haven't finished some narrative games they talk about.

However, finishing a bunch of games from a year in the past lets you go back and enjoy those deliberations which feels refreshing when all game podcasts talk about the same news! I'm playing Wolfenstein: The New Order right now and looking forward to reliving 2014.

I haven't found much.

The closest is SplatterCatGaming who is one of the only youtubers I've found who regularly covers new indie games. His videos are a bit like QLs. (Like this one for Despot's Game.) He talks through the game and explains it to the audience like a QL, and there's no chat so you're not missing half the conversation. However, he does it solo so there's no good banter or perspective of someone unfamiliar with the game. He does a bit too much showman voice and his jokes often fall flat for me -- things a good partner could improve. I think he's usually played a bit of the game ahead of time, but not as much prep as a QL: I don't think I've ever seen him load a save.

SplatterCat also has twitch, but I haven't watched that and assume it suffers from the typical focus on chat.

There is a collective vision for what the future of Giant Bomb is and it involves both familiar and new faces. We're already in talks with creators so that we can begin the next chapter. We're fully aware that this marks a big change and we're using this as an opportunity to rethink what this site is...

While it's almost certainly wrong, this made me imagine GB becoming a more curated alternative to twitch.tv. Less wild west, less algorithmic decision making, and more on-staff streamers. But Vinny, Brad, and Alex wanted to return to their more produced and edited content.

GB seems to have the technology for streaming and between GB and GS maybe they have the reach to put a dent in the market. Solving some of twitch's problems by reducing the scale would be an interesting experiment. I think GB's archives are already a better system than twitch's vods.

I really enjoyed listening to this compilation by @humanity about Brad and Vinny's Brothers bet:

It was great to hear Drew and Patrick on the podcast again.

I signed up for premium 10 years ago (!) because I loved the Bombcast. Over the years, the great new shows like Unfinished, Interview Dumptruck, and Beastcast and my love of the GB crew kept me subscribed.

I always loved Brad's tech deep dives (now a dedicated podcast with Will), bold proclamations, and the way he falls in love with flawed games (Dead Rising, Destiny, etc). I started watching Quick Looks and appreciated that Brad used gamepad for FPS games even when the comments mocked him -- but I found it more enjoyable to watch. Thanks Brad.

Over time, I grew to love Vinny's humour and when I became a dad I found even more common ground with him. (I loved the A Bunch of Dads podcasts!) It was a sad day when Papa Vinny left the Bay area and I didn't know how things would change. But then the Beastcast grew into something incredible and became my favourite podcast -- it frequently jumped the queue even when my podcast playlist grew huge. Alex's sardonic humour was a great contrast to Vinny's gleeful wit. The show gained and lost several great co-hosts, but it was always good listening. Thanks Vinny and Alex.

During the pandemic, I've started watching Premium content for the first time and enjoyed some of it. However, I still love your Quick Look format -- the blend of preparation, improv, and chemistry are something I haven't found elsewhere. I know you guys aren't disappearing, but I'd be surprised if you didn't take some time away the camera. Regardless, I can still dream about Vinny becoming an full time adventure game + sim game youtuber. Or a multi-game series where Brad tries to build something and Vinny causes chaos.

Take care guys. I've never met you, but listening to you is like hanging out with old friends.

I got a PS5 DualSense for Christmas and enjoyed using it for PC games. It has this heft that is unlike my other gamepads and it's surprisingly larger than the DualShock4 (seems like a great size for me). Works great for Steam games (because of SteamInput), but -- like DualShock4 -- lots of games don't switch button icons to show PlayStation buttons. I haven't noticed much about the rumble (it's just emulating traditional rumble and there's nothing going on with the triggers). I haven't figured out if it's too big for me.

However, the DualSense doesn't work for nearly all my GamePass PC games. I launch them from Steam Big Picture (via UWPHook), but I can't get SteamInput to work for most of these games either (haven't tried Joy2Key), so I wouldn't recommend the DualSense as your only gamepad if you have/want GamePass.

Otherwise, I'm using DualShock4s (which can barely hold a charge now) and a new white Xbox One gamepad that I'm really liking. The new xb1 gamepads have a nice grippy texture, but beware that the original models didn't support bluetooth!

@north6: Check out The Shivah for another Jewish main character (and the game's creator is Jewish too).

Loving Astroneering with Brad and Vinny. It's helped maintain my interest in the game and I'm ready for my next pick-me-up. (survival/crafting/sandbox games are not my bag, but space travel is very me.)

@humanity:Have you been to the centre of the planet?

I've only just done it the first time today (and lost part of my rover on the way), but I think it might resolve the issues you're having? I'm not quite sure.

I think their loop is "go to space so you can reach the core" which isn't too arduous (I only did one gas pumping mission so far and I think I only got Silicone out of it).

I do think they need better bread crumbs after your first space mission. Kinda feels like you won the battle but the war will be long. Glad I had Vinny and Brad to send me underground.

@someoneproud: Playing Astroneer has made me want to check out Satisfactory even more. The amount of manual inputs in this game (especially using their selection cursor with gamepad) make me thirst for automation.
