kanelflarn's Game of The Year 2022

This year is branded by one game in particular. It side stepped so much else that 2022's list should honestly be considered a top 6.

List items

  • An epic. I was determined I would never like a souls-like. Elden Ring with its open world and possibility of co-operative encounters was the perfect spice to prove me wrong. Many hours have I spent exploring the game's vast world, "collecting" encounters and dungeons to later take on with a buddy. So much so other games never even had the chance of getting played this year.

  • What a gem. My recurring best buddy game of the year. Started my first game of it early january, and just before typing these sentences on this years list ended one of my last sessions of the year. Starting playing on my phone as well just to be able to play this game anywhere.

  • Starting off as an intresting piece of RPG storyteller book game. Becomes something more. The way they mediate characters and dialog is inovative and helped me over the hurdle of once again read through a book to play game. Never felt cumbersome with Pentiment. Awesome surprise.

  • I had forgotten this game was coming. Showing up on games pass and reminded this comes from the people beind Limbo and Inside I threw myself over it. Two sessions later it was over. I admit it overstayed its welcome a little bit, but I enjoyed it. Despite wonky controls at times.

Selling me a game about a dad finding his family isn't that hard, me being a married father of two... Prime target. Though this story doesn't do much new.

  • Great family game that my 3 year old gladly watches while I play, and play some herself. Kirby done - close to - right in 3D.

Enjoyment spoiled a bit by drifting Switch controls...

  • Bite sized meal that nails the exploration collectathon gameplay.

  • The mobile game of the year. Excellent and quick card game with an ok system where monetizing felt parallell to the game. Sadly lost my interest a bit when progress curve slows down quite a lot.

  • Game of the year that I suck at playing. When Metal Hellsinger reaches its height, it is awesome. Most of its credit is due to the soundtrack though. That's what I want for my running.

  • Cult of the lamb should have been better. Runs are fun, stressed by missing out on managing the cult. Managing the cult can be quite fun, but hindered by needing to gather resources on the runs. I never got to the part where the two games made a whole.

To be fair, my largest problem with playing this game came down to drifting controls on the Switch.

  • It's a city builder. Not a management survival. It does building well.
