Maybe I am just spoiled with the treasuries of the UPFs of yore, and what an amazing backlog that is, but lately, these haven't been doing it for me. This one in particular was rough to get through, but I appreciated Dave being on, it brought some new energy to the whole thing.

I agree. There seems to be a fatigue setting in. A train of thought that I believe all gamers can follow. After seeing variation in the coating and surface paint, but less and less innovation or confluence, it gets about as repetitive as eating toast with ham and cheese, having to be creative and look for the buzz on the wrapping instead.

I'm having a difficult time hearing what Jason is saying, which is unfortunate, because the man has a lot of good things to say. Maybe his mic is too low?

Danish myself. I'm not referring to the lead antagonist role here, but the setting, the era, the world itself and historical gender arc.

Can someone help me connect the dots with red dead redemption 2? Is it an entirely new story with the characters of old or an old story in the settings of new? I watched radbrad play it, but couldn't quite tell.

@aussieguy:

Now there's an approach I appreciate. Considered and friendly. Addressed to you, not challenging the opinion of Abby, she's entitled to have one, I'd like to raise an eyebrow;

Does the opinion resonate with you, considering that:

one of the heads at santa Monica studios is in fact a woman

the criticism pleads the case of even, and more in some cases, representation in every game

representation takes away from the unique story and narrative cohering to a very set in stone Norse mythology

intersectionality dividing every game and story along arbitrary division inevitably leads to create imagined outrage and injustice

I only ask, because representation by law adheres to the values of equal representation and fair trial for all, so I would be amazed if that didn't stand it's ground. some products and lifestyles are advertised heavily to women, yet no one claimed any tropes in that regard. If so where are the homosexuals and the native Americans in that case?

I'm all for raising a discussion, and consider the relevance of possible change of mind set in games, negating the usual masculine hero, slaying his way to glory, saving the World as we know it, but this premise is rooted deeply in something irrelevant to that cause. And it doesn't help applaying math or gender to the framework for the sake of it, when the creative scope was dictated by a clear vision like this. Is it then a trope? Absolutely, but highly related to genre overlooking the values of it, if we are insisting on equality or gender role leniency. That's equivalent to being aggrivated by comedy being comedic, calling the thematic narrative a trope or fridgid, because the laughs aren't equally represented in gender roles.

trope noun

\ˈtrōp \

Definition of trope

1a : a word or expression used in a figurative sense : FIGURE OF SPEECH

b : a common or overused theme or device : CLICHÉ

the usual horror movie tropes

If we are going to discuss the back catalogue of gow or genre in general, then let's do it justice at least. It beckons the question of whether or not we are trying to discuss the general development of female characters in videogames, or single out a game for not adhering to certain standards pronoting equality.

If that's the case, I'd find it as absurd as being offended that THIS recent gow doesn't have a wider genealogical spread. Where are the Asians, the disabled war veterans and why aren't they all comparable to one man's strength? Is the scoreboard on par with the kill count for both genders and all animal races or does it speak to a hostile culture in our society trying to push their not so secret agenda? I'm sorry for the rant, I guess I'm one of those people who believe in the freedom of creative scope and equal opportunity, not equal outcome.

@mistertea:

There is no such rigid expectation to form or parlor. Be it male or female, me being the latter, No one should be disallowed cringing when something doesn't sit well with them and I find it reasonable for all to comment on delivery of criticism, rightfully expecting a certain level of qualitative discussions. The same goes for the reactions to those who criticize, but that doesn't negate the fact that some arguments and their base hold were lessened by the way they were delivered and engaged.
