Can't say I'm convinced based on the very shaky evidence presented, but I guess letting companies run roughshod over people's careers over it is perfectly okay. Guilty until proven innocent!

What a bummer.

What evidence?

Start a thread on Ingenito if you want to talk about him, or the court of public opinion. This is about an internal investigation, based on internally-sourced information, concluding that someone behaved in violation of sexual harassment rules and was fired for it. He was allowed to work for two months while the investigation took place.

You declared you don't know enough about the issue to have an opinion, and yet you shared one: that he "didn't say god bless you after somebody sneeze", which you equivocate to "rape". It's impossible to be more dismissive of workplace misconduct than that!

You've made it clear that you have a problem with trusting victims, and that you fundamentally don't understand sexual harassment in the workplace - or, at worst, that you think it's bullshit. My opinion on this matter is that's disgusting.

Probably more bullshit like the Vince Ingenito crap. That guy complied completely, shared his phone and everything he had, and they found nothing. But these days misinterpreting somebody's feelings and thinking they dig you how you dig them is "rape," opposed to just a normal ass part of human life that happens to everybody. Steve Butts probably made some offhand joke or didn't say god bless you after somebody sneeze, but who knows, I wasn't there. Their talent sucks anyway, their dumb extreme-liberal climate is just another reason to not give them views and clicks.

man with enormous chip on his shoulder about this issue for some completely inexplicable, impossible-to-guess reason: "I dont know anything about what happened, but the victims are wrong"

My advice is: dont pay attention to which gamer hates which developer because it's all completely and totally meaningless and ineffectual and publishers as large as EA aren't a person at whom hate can be directed anyway they are organizations with staff that rotates so frequently and with responsibilities so widely divided that no single person can bear the brunt of any of the blame for any one thing so why even fuckin bother getting mad about others being mad at nobody in particular

also EA, one of the largest corporations in the fuckin world, doesn't need anyone's defense and doesn't care if anyone hates them as it hasn't mattered in the least for over a decade so why should it matter now

Just go do the Zora Divine Beast immediately. It's the first one, it's very easy, gives you a new skill, and will point you in the next direction. Realistically, there are only about 5 major destinations in that game: the four Divine Beasts, and then the castle. Everything else in-between you will be directed towards, or near, by the Divine Beast stuff.

This website doesn't need to be all things to all people. It's ok for folks to not want to deal with social issues on a gaming site. That doesn't make them perma-children or whatever you were trying to imply. Escapism is a valid thing and doesn't mean you're immature or that you can't or won't deal with "adult" issues. That said if there are conversations you don't want to engage in, just ignore them and move on.

For what it's worth, I basically agree with this. I'm mostly rejecting the idea that certain conversations are too "intellectual" or "serious" and are not supposed to/allowed to happen here, especially because they are interfering with someone's ability to "just have fun". Stryker touched on that with their observation about Patrick and Austin's articles being rejected wholesale for their mere existence here. This thread is itself a mocking reaction to an approach to games that doesn't align with the typical mores of this community. That's shitty. Like you said, if you don't want to have these conversations, move on.

Gosh, remember when these forums were about having fun? Back in 08 or 10 a thread like this one would have been welcomed with open arms for a fun lil stab at a completely overblown discussion. And now here we are, either not getting the gist of it, or again trying to argue it into the ground. Thanks, passage of time!

I also think you should have added Darth Icky as one of the options. Thanks.

Ah, the old "remember when games were fun?" discussion. This thread exists as a mockery of intellectualism. Suggesting that everyone should unanimously cheer its existence is alarming, to say the fuckin least. Also yeah man, like, remember when we were ten (TEN!) years younger? And things were just fun? Welcome to adulthood, please stop hovering at the door and enter already

@opusofthemagnum: Any political- or social-angled column written by Patrick or Austin when they were here wasn't even debated for content half the time. Its very existence was questioned. That's my problem with the commentariat here, more than anything, and it's pushed me away from a site I used to love.

Hey, I'm completely on your level. Sure hope your point about Patrick and Austin's articles is heard.

Don't let fandom drive you away from stuff you like. I mean hey, if the content isn't for you, that's one thing, but this community is fucking rough. Long Live the Beastcast!!

@stryker1121: or maybe the toxic levels of intolerance to certain viewpoints in gaming communities doesn’t leave room for anything else.

Also they ARE video games, not trying to even address the points that “intellectuals” want to attach to them most of the time, so there’s that.

The same group posting this will argue that you should punch any “Nazi alt-right” you see while somehow using an allegory to the same damn world power they condemn to represent the victims of the white man or whatever.

Wolfenstein is at least intended to touch on subjects like race, but even that is couched in history and fake history at that.

I’d love to have a conversation, but the childish hard left bend of this community makes that hard.

This is a place where you can post asking what kinds of guns fellow dudes own and it gets locked in a matter of hours because 80% of comments are “how dare you excercise your rights.”

When half or more of the reason for these kinds of “controversies” is to try and make anyone right of Maddow or whiter than Jackson out to be “part of the problem” or just villainized, it’s hard to take it seriously. Even less so on a video game site known for it’s content being “dumb” even for a video game site.

It’s okay to not want to talk about that kind of stuff here. It isn’t childish, and in fact some would argue it’s less childish than many of the arguments put forward on social and political issues. Probably not many round these parts, but I’m sure I’m not the only one.

It’s also okay to have different opinions. That’s not necessarily angled towards you, but seeing as you want to comment on people shying away from political discourse, part of the reason for me is that there is no desire for discourse, only an echo chamber.

My dude if you think that being "hard left" is the dominant viewpoint here, or in the gaming community writ large, you have not been paying attention. this community is the most centrist-ass place on the internet, and the gaming community in general would love nothing more than for "intellectuals" to keep their dirty lefty brains off of their games, which are just games by the way!!!!!!!!, and while we're at it no women please

@algar: I do wonder if his use of the "make gaming great again" phrasing is supposed to be sarcastic or if he's embracing the awful userbase that's now going to be the core audience for NeoGAF.

He's "one of those". Rather than admitting fault, apologizing, seeking to understand why a huge amount of people are disgusted by his behavior, he has instead said, "hm, hard work? fuck it" and turned to the shitheads who will patch him up, agree that he's done nothing wrong, and whisper gentle promises of vengeance in his ear. Plenty of those in the games community these days!!!!!!!!!!
