At the end, Brad had convinced himself that Vinny just needed to learn to track and hunt wild creatures to enjoy the game, but couldn't understand that Vinny hunted not only legendaries but many other creatures and did not find it compelling.
Anyone saying that those who dislike RDR2 because it doesn't give them everything, the opposite is the truth. The game babies you so, so much in the missions, and the upgrades mean nothing because you effectively start the game with over 20 full-health consumable slots (think Zelda blue potions). You aren't allowed to be creative or be immersed in any mission, even side missions. There is an option to remove your compass from the HUD, but too many missions absolutely depend on it. You get so much money after the first bank robbery, a farm in Tahiti isn't some dream, but a goal you can see yourself working towards. Besides, you have nothing else to spend money on, and the rest of the camp threw in their squirrel hide and occasional dime.
Why have a three star rabbit spawn on a mission when I can't walk out 10 feet without it failing out?
It's fun to be a cowboy, and RDR2 seems to do everything in its power to prevent me from having fun.
I was sorting through my equipment in Emerald, and a young man came up to me, asking me to find his dog. After finding it, petting it, and bringing it back to him, the man became abusive to the dog, threatening to 'stomp on its paws' if it didn't come to him for a scolding. The dog, cautious and whimpering, runs off and leaves the town for good, forced to choose to risk its own life in the wild for what was perhaps once a safe and warm home.
Playing as Arthur Morgan, how many would choose to shoot this man right where he stood? How many would wrangle him in a lasso and drag him for a country mile?
How many would be at all surprised or exceptionally disappointed to know that this dirtbag of an NPC was untargetable, un-lassoable, and unkillable? He survived being trampled by my horse a dozen times, which was just long enough for all the hate I had for this NPC to be transferred from him, to the game itself.
Red Dead Redemption 2 robbed me of my just vengeance and took away my agency, this being just one of a dozen times.
I played through and beat SotN for the first time about a month ago, then caught on up on these episodes. Prior to this, I've beaten all the GBA and DS Castlevanias.
I did not know you could high jump. The game doesn't tell you. I was expecting a Roc's Feather or something similar to show up.
I was super stuck on Galamoth, until I looked up how to beat him and learned of the shield rod spells. The game doesn't tell you of this either, and knowing it makes things ridiculous.
