I don't get how a video game magazine like this can have 8 hours in one day and make a 24 minute video. Like how what do they do for the rest of the day? No work on Monday or Tuesday and in 2019 quick looks are getting shorter.
D-d...does this have to do with the government shutdown? If such is rhe case this is the real national emergency. Come on Y'all can be better in two thousand and nineteen.
I think you've just been spoiled by the extra long quick looks of the past. Arguably the greatest quick look in the history of the site, Rogue Warrior, is only 23 minutes long.
@mcdslps: I find it interesting in moderation. Back when Jeff started doing these I was equally entranced by it and his knowledge of these titles. It almost seems likely that if a game was ever developed pre-1990 then Jeff has had some contact with it. Over time though the interesting games of the past gave way to just looking at anything, and there is no value in checking out how "bad" some of these were. As always GB is mainly about the conversation and gameplay second, so having fun Rorie anecdotes and interesting Jeff quips is definitely a plus, but a whole hour of just bad pixels on the screen is too much for me. Cool that others enjoy it I suppose.
I feel the same way about all these pixel art games coming out in the last several years. When Fez came out, I looked at it wondered why anyone would want to play a game that looked like that anymore. It just keeps going and it blows my mind that people want to play games that deliberately look old. I went to school for years to study Roman artifacts and I get the same reaction when I see knickknacks in peoples' homes that are new made to look old.
Having said that, that's why I like it when Jeff looks at the old games, because they look old because they are old. They're not going for an aesthetic, they look that way because they've always looked that way.
I know a lot of people really enjoy the horse-trading that goes on during GOTY every year, but I've been pondering whether there'd be a time where the site simply just didn't do GOTY anymore. I wonder what that'd be like? Would people be more upset they didn't pick a game of the year than if they picked the 'wrong one'?
In my experience, these games are only fun in a casual setting with friends. If you're playing with tryhards or people who are actually passionate about a character, they're the most infuriating games ever made.
@rorie: Can you tell us the sizes of the items the professional models are wearing? I'm Brad-sized and it would help to know the size of the pull-over he is wearing.
I will say that Rorie's reply to me was probably meant for you and that Brad is probably wearing an XL.
