1080p but only 30 fps? That sucks a gargantuan dick, Evolution Studios. So bam.

Evolution has said they're shooting for 60fps, I guess we'll see how that goes. Motorstorm was at 30fps, and that game had a great sense of speed and fluidity, so I'm not too worried either way.

So bam?

Evolution has released a few 1080p high bitrate versions of their demo footage from Gamescom. Site hosting them is getting hammered right now, but thought I would throw these up in case anyone wanted to check them out.

The streaming copies are only 720p, you need to download the videos to see the 1080p versions.

Remind me again when this thing comes out, because with the number of changes they're making, I can't see it being ready in what, a couple of months?

Considering this and the last launch with its RRoDs and YLoDs, I don't see why anyone in their right mind would pick up either of these consoles on launch.

Based on a picture posted on Twitter a few days ago, they've pretty much just gone into production (Major Nelson posted a pic of the first box coming off of the packing line).

To be fair, the CPU in both the XBO and PS4 are rated at 2Ghz, both Sony and MS seemed to have clocked them down to 1.6Ghz initially, and likely both have been upclocking over time once the system has been more finalized to test for potential thermal issues. There's a chance Sony has revised their CPU speeds upwards as well over time (not a given, but definitely not a given that they haven't either) in the final stages of finalizing their own system casing/cooling. Sony likely doesn't feel the need to step up and announce numbers at this point, MS has been doing it mostly as a spin tactic to rally their base in light of all the negativity surrounding the XBO's launch and everything else.

VR support trumps more than 4 controllers anyway. It is known.

Possible reason:

The BT spec on the PS3 allowed for 8 devices, but the PS3 was considered one of those devices, so it only supported 7 extra controllers.

It's possible, although unconfirmed, that the touchpad on the DS4 takes up a spot on the BT chain independently of the rest of the controller, which would mean having 4 DS4 controllers in use would mean the PS4 sees 8 devices. The weird part about this would be if the PS4 is no longer considered to be a device on the chain, otherwise only 3 DS4 + touchpads would work simultaneously.

I'm sure the only way we'll know any of this for sure is once the system is in the wild. I've never had more than 2 other people on a PS3 at one time, so this doesn't really affect me, but I do know people who have played Fifa in 5-7 player configurations on the PS3 in their college dorm.

While there's a sizable Call of Duty player base on the PS3, a lot of the Sony's base comes from gamers who don't want 4 first person shooters out of every 5 games. They want games like Puppeteer, The Last Of Us, Ico, etc. Sony needs to continue investing in internal development as opposed to taking the route of paying for 3rd party timed exclusives and timed DLC. By investing internally, you build enough solid franchises that last that you don't need to churn out a Infamous or a Killzone every year.

http://www.geekwire.com/2013/xbox-update-console-full-production-improved-cpu-performance/

"Xbox chief marketing officer Yusef Mehdi just spoke at the Citi Global Technology Conference and said Microsoft is now in full production for the Xbox One and producing in mass with plans still on for a November 2013 launch.

About one month after improving the GPU clock speed, Mehdi added that Microsoft just made another technical boost by upgrading the CPU performance to 1.75 GHZ from 1.6 GHZ."

This is actually pretty minor in comparison to GPU upclocks, but probably worth mentioning.

So does the camera still exist or what? Haven't heard a peep about that thing since the initial announcement.

Also, this is dumb Sony, stop it.

The PS camera is unaffected by this, if anything, the camera could be used in concert with it for head tracking.

The hype around the Occulus Rift makes this a no brainer, and there are rumblings that MS has a similar piece of tech in development.

This is where gaming is heading, and should have been for awhile. The only negative to VR based gaming is that it's taken this long for it to catch hold and provide a reliable, affordable, consumer experience.

Sony really should not develop a own device but rather support Oculus Rift with their PS4. It would be a wise and cheaper move to do so.

Rift tech is pretty impressive, but Sony is a hardware company and has previous experience with VR tech, so I imagine they at least believe they can develop something comparable or superior to what the Rift is going to offer. Yoshida has mentioned on several occasions how much he likes the Rift, so it's not a surprise Sony would want to try and capitalize on that. It's also entirely possible the reveal would be an announcement of a collaboration between Oculus and Sony, but that would actually surprise me more than Sony just doing their own thing.

According to a few people on other sites who know more than I do, the math doesn't really add up. Also, considering they made such a big deal about a 53Mhz GPU increase, going to say it would be weird if they bumped their CPU up from 1.6Ghz to 1.9Ghz and didn't say anything about it.

I guess we'll see, but seems like idle speculation at this point.
