Yeah KOF is tough as hell to play well, Xrd is the only game I think might beat it in terms of executing depending on the character you play where you need to start learning instant air dashes and possibly jump installs and FD cancels, a few 632146 supers as well where I'll always do 632147 instead and jump. I play King/Maxima/Geese, I can do pretty good with King just playing fundamentals and knowing her fairly basic combos but once she's gone I'll inadvertently super-jump with Maxima and get smacked or screw up the counter super with Geese and... get smacked. It's rough but the game is so fast and offensive focused I still love the hell out of it. Feels like it would be good game for new players in that regard because new players love to rush in and hit buttons and jump a lot which is terrible in most fighting games except in here where constantly going in and hitting buttons and jumping everywhere is what you "should" do.
Quick note on the mechanic gripes, you actually can see when you're about to get stunned - your character portrait will start flashing green when you're close (feels like 75% or so?). I prefer LPLK for throws as well but most older fighting games were that way as well, even Xrd which is only couple years old does that as well. Outside of rolls I find it harder to run up and throw but at least if you whiff you get an attack to come out instead of the whiff throw animation into getting smacked again.

Couldn't have bundled a camera in there as well and called it $450? That seems a little dicey, but good price.
Regarding the question at the end, I have an Oculus pre-ordered and feel good about it as it feels like the middle ground with PSVR being the low end entry and Vive being the high end enthusiast (though I guess everything is for VR right now). And while it feels like a silly reason it was the first one out there and is still synonymous with VR for me, and Lucky Palmer and John Carmack are still the guys I think of when I hear VR, even if PSVR will be cheaper and Vive will be 'better'. I can't imagine there's 1 particular game anyone is buying this stuff for right now, but the idea of being able to play Elite: Dangerous and spend an afternoon flying through space or hell trying out the sorta there VR in Alien Isolation, or feeling like a badass when Super Hot gets it are the things that pushed me over the edge. Hope the gamble pays off.
@space_cadet_12: Gang Beasts. They've done a bunch of UPFs with it (usually towards the end) and most of them are great.
Haven't watched the full thing but one easy thing Jeff could start doing is you can link LK after B+HK, and cancel that into HP Shoryuken (B+HK, LKxxHP Shoryuken if you prefer). There are better combos but that should be basic enough and importantly long enough animations that you can hit confirm it and either DP at the end or not, and if not since B+HK is even on block (you recover the same time they do) so you should be safe to do it (might trade against a light or DP if they do one but better than B+HK cr.HK).
Also worth noting Ryu's MP Shoryuken is invulnerable at the start, so that's probably your best anti air. Learning the timing and ranges and such takes time but once you do it's a big step forward especially against new players.

Seeing the ending again still made my stomach knot up and made me a little misty. It doesn't nail everything it goes for but it's a hell of a game and watching GBeast play just makes me feel better about putting it as my GotY.
Also they chose wrong.
Still a bit concerned about no controller support since the UI doesn't look that much better, but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt until I get hands on. Everything else looks like a better XCOM which I am 100% ready for more of and can't state how much I love the setting of this one.
Hell of an ending as well.
