So much love for Paul Barnett, I remember when he was promoting Warhammer Online and his delivery of the 'mmo vision' and interpretation of the world they had created was amazing, I just wish the development of the game could have delivered on the passion he invested into it.
Warhammer Online was my first exposure to Paul Barnett so for a little while after it launched I considered him the prince of lies. Turns out he's a pretty cool dude.
Definitely feel like the space is required there. That said, the way I read your sentence, I assumed you were saying that male romance was an undeserved meme, in the sense that a lot of people are flocking to it to be all "Isn't this weird??? Haha. No homo, haha!" about it. Which I believe to also be the case, to a certain extent.
I feel that way too. There's been some great games that feature an LGBT romance at the forefront (Gone Home, Life is Strange, and GW2 had a lesbian couple center stage for a long time), but it's all been females. As a gay man myself, it can sometimes feel a bit like the only LGBT romance developers are interested in portraying is the one that's easiest to sell to the straight male majority market- Two cute girls doing cute girl things together.
While a dating sim probably isn't going to inspire the kind of emotional resonance that the other games I mentioned did, it is nice to see it's sincere, and also willing to portray gay men as... well, men.
Woah, Abby has a motorcycle? How do I ask her what she rides?
I also had a motorcycle license but no car license for a long time. Past the motorcycle road test the first time, and the car road test... The 6th time.
For people complaining that the Beast crew are bad at this game, keep something in mind: When they get to a difficult part, they each get one shot at it before having to wait 10-15 minutes before trying again. That's more than long enough to lose any 'feel' you might've gained for a platforming section. Additionally, each one of them is getting (give or take) 1/4 of the experience playing that a single player would have when getting to a given point on the game's difficulty curve.
I personally don't mind. Watching them fail repeatedly is a big part of the fun of this format, for me. Otherwise it would just be a standard playthrough of a relatively mediocre Mario game.
