Regrets and Honorable Mentions:

Regrettably Not Played:

  • Assassin's Creed IV
  • Dragon's Crown
  • Gone Home
  • Rogue Legacy
  • Soul Sacrifice
  • The Swapper

Honorable Mention:

  • Beyond: Two Souls
    • If it weren't for the awful controls (don't know why they diverged from Heavy Rain), this would've made the list. Unfortunately the whole "move right stick towards dot in relation to where Jodie is on the screen" and "not always clear if quick time event wants you to push the right analog stick towards or away from Jodie" mechanics made some of the chapters pretty miserable. The story was great though, and very moving at times.
  • Dive Kick
    • Didn't play much of it, because I don't often play games with friends, but the concept is gold and the execution was perfect.
  • Rayman Legends
    • I played Origins on Vita and bought Legends as soon as I could . The game is, as Origins was, basically perfect. The only reason it didn't make my top 10 is because it was more of the same (not a bad thing at all).

List items

  • Graphics, mechanics, narrative, lies... this game had it all, and did it all in stellar fashion. Can't really say much beyond that.

  • BioShock Infinite was a serviceable shooter held up by an incredibly well-imagined universe, strong characters, and a great story.

  • I wouldn't have played this game were it not for Brad's ringing endorsement on the Bombcast. The game's unexpected twist and grand finale had a strong effect on me in that it was the 2nd game to ever make me lose my shit (To The Moon was the first). I really hope there are more games like this in the future. I ended up gifting the game to three different people after playing it to show support.

  • GTA V is probably the most solid open world game ever created. The way they pushed the tech of the last generation was astounding. Were the story better, and the shooting as good as the driving, this game would be higher on my list.

  • Charm. This game oozes it.

  • I loved Gunpoint for its super unique mechanics along with its incredibly witty dialog. I hope to see more greatness from Tom Francis in the future.

  • The local multiplayer in this game is perhaps the most fun you can have playing games with friends.

  • Guacamelee was a perfectly crafted experience, from the combo system, to the level design, to the unlock-able abilities, to the "just right" difficulty level. I was no kidding at California Pizza Kitchen the other day and said "Guacamelee" when I tried to order White Corn Guacamole appetizer.

  • Another game that just oozes charm. Not only was Puppeteer gorgeous to look at, it was a pretty solid platformer with a lot of neat ideas, and had a fairly neat story as well.

  • Another game I played based on Brad's recommendation, but one I didn't pick up until the end of the year (it was actually picked up for me, <3 Rob). I was instantly hooked though, and sunk 4 hours into it the first day I played it. It has such a perfected reward loop.
