GOTY Of The Year Of The Lord Twenty Thousand and Thirteen

Here are my Games of the Year, time for you all to argue with me.

List items

  • Yeah, yeah, it didn't come out in 2013, but this is the year (or should I say "season"?) that I feel LoL has finally hit its stride. Part of that is the fact that every single one of my real-life friends has gotten into the game hardcore - playing everyday, watching the professional leagues, trading strategies. But Riot has changed its focus as the game as it has matured - slowing the rollout of new champions and instead focusing on making roles more clearly defined, re-aligning the game in ways that might aggravate people who have been playing since DotA All-Stars days, but just plain make sense for appealing to a mainstream, eSports-fed audience. I might have spent more time watching LoL being played this year than I did playing every other game combined this year, and I have no regrets about it.

  • With its rich world, stellar gameplay, and mind-bending story, the tragic tale of Booker DeWitt held me spellbound this year.

  • I've never been a fighting game nerd, but the simple-to-learn, difficult-to-master gameplay of Divekick, paired with the convenience of having it in the palm of my hand on my Vita, has hooked me hard. Curse you, Dave Lang!
