Just got back from watching Quantum of Solace and I can honestly say that it was the best movie of the year. Now this year I saw in theaters, Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Hancock, Hellboy II, Wanted, and of course Dark Knight twice, and I still think that Quantum of Solace takes the cake. It had an amazing story for someone like me who was well versed in Casino Royale's plot, and had seen every special feature and commentary on the movie multiple times. If you haven't seen Casino Royale, you might be a bit lost, but it still does stand on it's own legs fairly well. The action was unsurpassed, with absolutely breathtaking set pieces, and right during the opeing scene I couldn't help but turn to my friend and say "Damn, this is gonna look sweet on Blu-ray" to which he replied with an understanding nod! If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend it.

It gets a Princely rating of 9.8/10

This is definitely going to be the next movie I watch. Hopefully, I'll enjoy it as much as you did.

Try and watch Casino Royale, if you already haven't! It takes the enjoyability up a fair bit!

Sukiyaki Western Django = best movie of the year in my personal opinion.  Sure, my review doesn't necessarily paint it out that way...but I'm a huge Miike fan, so I just deal with the flaws.

Clearly the year's best film was Burn After Reading.

I saw it. Was kind of let down by it, I thought it would have some great action and an understandable plot but it kind of fell bellow my expectations on both of those. I kinda wanna see it again in a better theater so I could understand it better but, still, I saw The Dark Knight in that theater and I still loved the crap outta that movie.

And guys, best movie of the year is Madagascar 2 IMBECILES!

I liked Quantum, saw it last night as well, but it's nowhere near contender for FotY. My pick goes to either Gomorrah or Hunger.

Dark Knight is much better than Quantum Of Solace. But they're different films.

The problem with Quantum Of Solace is that it has to come after Casino Royale which is the best Bond film I've ever seen. I thought the plot was far too complicated and some of the action scenes were too scatty.

That aside it's still an absolutely brilliant Bond film no doubt. It's just no Casino Royale.

Gemma Arterton as Strawberry Fields was AMAZING though. It's nice to see a girl like her rise from TV to start getting these huge parts.

I have no idea how to play poker, so I found that scene intensely dull. At least when he played Pontoon in the old films, the rules for that are simple, but with this, I was clueless even after someone explained it to me."

Yeah, Wall-E is an awesome movie. That's probably the one real movie that I would never want to get on DVD over Blu-Ray though.

Worse than Casino Royale imo, it has to be the Dark Knight for me.

It was very good, but not as good as Casino Royale. And this is coming from a huge Bond fan. Dark Knight takes it for me, but I won't buy it -- I don't have an HDTV, and the movie isn't nearly as good if it isn't HD or on a giant screen. I'd assume, at least.

Like I said, it depends on what you liked about Casino Royale.

The relationship between Vesper and Bond was hands down the best thing about Royale. Something that wouldn't make sense if it was replicated in QoS.

Aside from that Royale had such a big effect because it was such a huge step for the Bond franchise. Quantum Of Solace was NEVER going to have that "innovation".

Huh. Never thought I'd hear that. I'm not the biggest bond fan - is an understatement, but I guess I'll reserve judgment till I actually see the film.

I'm glad you liked QoS. I've heard some negative things, which I hope are all empty.

Personally though, I don't think even James Bond can top Taken. That film is indisputably my favorite of 2008.

I didn't get to see it this weekend since I was in New Orleans.  I didn't even see Casino Royale until last week.  I will most likely see it this weekend.

Shaken not stirred."  So unless you are a big fan of the campy old Bond, you will like this movie more likely then not.
