LiquidPrince's Top 10 Best Games of 2013

This was a fantastic year for games. What a way to end the console generation.

List items

  • Naughty Dog is by far my favorite game developer which means that I was super excited for The Last of Us before I even knew what it was. The game has an amazing story, with a believable cast that you really end up caring for them. It also still blows my mind how a game can look so damn amazing, running on seven year old technology. For the most part it can compete with the launch games of the new consoles pretty easily, and that's just speaking about it on a technical level. Lets not even get into how amazing the art direction is. This was easily my game of the year for 2013.

  • I was surprised at how much I liked this game. I never played the original Bioshock despite hearing so much praise for it just because it didn't look like the kind of game that I enjoyed. I liked the world design and idea, but wasn't interested in playing it. Oddly enough, Infinite, I couldn't pass up. Maybe it was the sky city motif, or the colour pallet, but it drew me in right away. I loved the game so much that I went back and played original Bioshock just so I can understand all the references in the Infinite DLC.

  • I hadn't liked Tomb Raider since back in the Legends days. The more recent games were clunky and boring. Tomb Raider was none of that. It filled the Uncharted void that I felt and then some. In fact I liked it so much, I can't wait for the Definitive Edition... and I already own it on PS3 and PC. Yeah, I'm weird like that.

  • I was scepticle about the new Dante as were many other people, and new Dante hasn't replace classic Dante for me. That being said, this game was a fantastic surprise and one of the best character action games released in recent memory.

  • I freaking loved this game. I probably poured more hours into Injustice this year then any game from the past few years. In fact I'm still playing it now, and even repurchased it on PS4 after having already bought all the DLC back on my PS3. It was that good.

  • I was apparently one of the few that really liked Assassin's Creed 3, so I was amped for Black Flag. As much as I liked Conner's serious story, it's always fun to get a swashbuckling rogue as your main character. It doesn't get more swashbuckling then a pirate assassin.

  • I used to think that I wasn't a fan of open world games. Saint's Row and Assassin's Creed showed me otherwise. Turns out I'm just not a fan of Rockstar games. Saint's Row had wacky characters, hilarious story, and some of the most fun open world gameplay around.

  • Was the reason I bought the Wii in the first place and is even better on the Vita. Looks gorgeous, plays great and looks gorgeous. Did I mention how awesome this game looks?

  • This was my first Fire Emblem game and it surprised me how much I liked it. Pretty engaging story, likable characters, marriage, combat, strategy.

  • Sure the game was a bit clunkier then the other two Arkham games, and sure Conroy and Hamill were not there, but the story in Origins was actually the strongest of the trilogy in my opinion. Also, Troy Baker sounds eerily similar to Hamill.

Nice list! I also have LoU and Bioshock as my top 2, followed by AC4 and Batman.
