I always got the impression Ken Levine would rather work in film than games. Same with Kojima.

I get where you're coming from but I'd say that more about any other AAA developer. Those two have been consistently some of the few in the big budget gaming that have actually used the medium to tell stories that only work in video games. Metal Gear Solid cannot work in any other medium because so much of it hinges on the player being in control behind Snake and the nature of that relationship and BioShock and BioShock Infinite both have huge meta-narrative twists.

Man, Sony REALLY doesn't like to have good things going for them, do they? If this is true, I'm out. I'm not dropping another $400 on something marginally better. I'll throw that money into my PC and Nintendo consoles will be the only ones I stick with for a while.

Seems like it's going to be a great game for people already into fighters but not a fantastic entry point for casual fans. That's too bad.

I'd actually say the opposite: the low character count, increased accessibility of combos and while a lot of little changes were brought up by Jason in the review, it all equals to a faster playing game where you can more easily do the flasher moves. I'd say it's much easier to jump in here than with vanilla SFIV.

It's good to recognize the flaws in the thing you like. MGS is my favourite AAA series too, and it's going to take something of unimaginable impact to topple that series in my mind. However, I also recognize the sexism in the form of objectifying women that has appeared in increasing quantity as the series progressed.

Apparently the justification for Quiet is that she's supposed to be a caricature of how women are depicted (especially in Japan) in video games? But even if that's the case it does help the situation at all. It just sucks that Kojima can't talk about MGSV's themes post-release.

I think also in recognizing what one thinks of as a guilty pleasure, and what makes it so for them, one can then just say that it's something they enjoy without calling their enjoyment "guilty"; as others have said.

For a good version of the completely deconstruction the fanservice character, look at Nier. It does it exceptionally with Kaine.

It's also really baffling how MGS can have The Boss, Meryl and Sniper Wolf and then Quiet and the weird photo studio stuff with the Beauties in MGS4. Sure, Sniper Wolf has her coat open but that's kinda part of her character, she lusts over her prey and quite literally gets off on it, to me that's a way better character justification than Quiet.

I'm glad Jeff didn't forgive this game's bullshit. Seriously? The game looks like it does and runs at 30fps at best sometimes...when stuff like The Witcher 3 and MGSV have come out looking better and running better. The excuse of "Oh Bethesda games are just so big" completely falls apart when other AAA games have done the same and have not been nearly as busted.
