I actually like the game a lot more than I thought I would. While I won't go as far as saying that it's better than Smash, I will say that it's still a damn fun game to play. Maybe it's because I've yet to even touch the single player modes, but the multiplayer experience does it for me. Still, I'll admit that 1 vs. 1 kind of leaves a lot to be desired, but I think the best way to play this game is with a friend, going online as a team and fighting random dudes.

I still play this game like nobody's business, but that's probably because I'm part of the mentioned "already established base". It's a shame that the Tekken community has so much trouble growing because of that steep learning curve. It's sooo good once you're good.

Sometimes I use a certain chair as opposed to the couch. Does that count?

I think it's more about reading your opponent than it is reacting. The beauty of DOA is that the more you fight one dude, the more you'll pick up on his methods. That's when you start countering.

Always Brad Wong, always shenanigans. Sometimes I'll dabble in some Bayman or Kasumi, though.

Seeing as how this was my first DOA game (as well as the only DOA game I own until 5 comes out), I have to say that for a game that's nearly 7 years old, it doesn't feel dated at all. Coming from Tekken, the movement and combo system was really easy for me to pick up. Brad Wong is one of my favorite characters to play as, next to Zafina and Firebrand. I have you to thank for introducing me to the series, so thanks!

@Demoskinos: You did good! I was eating a lot more Asuka counters than I'd like to admit, but I definitely saw some improvement from the last time we fought. I recommend watching these videos so you can start learning proper juggles. There was a lot of damage potential that you were missing out on.

Wait, Bayman's been in there since the beginning? I don't even remember seeing him in the short time I played DOA2: Hardcore, much less DOA1. Nice write-up!

I was trying to teach you the expert, highly advanced tactic of crouching, but getting roasted's cool too!
