It's quite neat. You assemble your crew of adventurers and traverse a variety of themed maps from node to node, with each offering a story beat, a stat-check challenge, or an encounter. For me, the story is the best part, with some good humour and a decent thread to each map. Not 80-Days quality narrative, but fun. The stat challenges are a little dry and feel pretty random - you can see what type of challenge a node might hold, but since you can't swap out adventurers mid-campaign, it feels mostly out of your control. The combat is basic turn-based fare, with a mood system that I haven't found impacts things very much.

As for a QL, I think Vinny and Austin might find it fun. A lot of text, though, but the GBeast gang do a great job of spicing that up with their quippy narration :)

I have a woeful memory (much of which has occurred due to medication side effects), so I find it totally normal that people forget things, even common, oft-repeated stuff. The way the brain works means that attention is not the only cause of strong memories: flashbulb memories are often thought to be particularly accurate because of how vivid they are, but they're just as faulty as any other recollection.

Going to start with the easy questions, just to make sure: have you unplugged all USB devices? That's messed me up at times, for no discernible reason. Is the CPU speaker on the right pins? Those are fiddly sods, sometimes. Have you also tried with a single stick of RAM, no HDD, and internal GFX (if your board has it)?

@afabs515: I'm so with you on this. I have a love/hate relationship with Danganronpa:I love piecing together clues and unravelling the mysteries, but I hate the reliance on gross stereotypes and lazy tropes.

Another example for me was MGS V. Everything to do with Quiet left a sour taste in my mouth, even as the stealth gameplay was satisfying.

Yes, yes, and yes. A deep, engaging read into one of the seminal periods of the video game industry.

Wowee. From the Game Crazy video: 'This is like a gamer's ride, dawg'. Glad to see the industry's matured since then, right? Right...?

Thanks for posting these, duder!

It's pretty neat. The combat is fairly simple rock-paper-scissors turned-based stuff, with some interesting ideas pertaining to the moods and emotions of the combatants layered on top. I haven't really found that part particularly useful, though.

The choose-your-own-adventure element has heart, but it too is quite simplistic. Your options are either dice rolls based on character stats, or sometimes unique options based on perks. No real skill involved (the percentages are even provided for you). Still fun, though.

Nice not-quite post-mortem! I'm with you on the 360 becoming a landmark console in the eyes of history; the HD generation changed the gaming landscape, and for Microsoft to dominate the space in spite of horrendous technical problems is a tremendous achievement. Couple that with the longest console generation by a large margin, and the plasticky box warrants all the fond memories I share with it.
