I've been involved in the modding biz for quite a while now, and what I see is that stand-alone engines are way more interesting to use than modding games these days. You essentially make mods because you want to use the engine and get a head start to make a cool game, well... now you got UDK and Unity and all the others which are engines dedicated and designed for "common" people to use to make games. No need to hassle with weird scripts and decompiles to figure out how stuff works (looking at you Source!), its all there and documented. Granted, small projects like adding a game mode or something like that would still make sense as a mod, but people want to make big things now :)
Basically, its just easier and not as closed down to work with UDK for example as it is with Source.
What are your guys favorite way of breaking up the standard way of fighting in action games? For example, I'm playing Kane & Lynch: Dog days and feel like the action is basically the same over and over again, nothing to switch it up or turn it on its head. Just cutscene, shoot, fade to black over and over again. I'd love to see some break up in the action with something else to do.
Halo 3 had the vehicle sections, Alan Wake had the day sections (which I wanted more of!), Gear of War had some chase scenes and all that darkness stuff.
So, the Giant Bomb community, what kind of break is your favorite in a game?
PS (again):I bougt mine at launch for 1030 USD (actually not that expensive in norway since everything is expensive here, and the fact that norwegians have WAY more disposable income than americans and other europeans) "
Wow....love yourself much? "
I don't know if there was a miss in translation here, and stop me if I'm putting words in your mouth here Brakken but everything is super expensive in Norway, but the salaries are way higher than the rest of Europe. So it pretty much evens out in the end... I think. All I know is that they do all their shopping in Sweden because of this :P
I live in Gothenburg, Sweden, the birth place of companies such as Volvo and SKF. We also gave the world music acts such as Ace of Base, Fever Ray/The Knife, The Soundtrack of Our Lifes, Björn Ulvaeus (song-writer from ABBA) and Jose Gonzalez. People interested in metal might have heard about the "Gothenburg Sound" aka melodic death metal, groups such as At the Gates, Dark Tranquillity, HammerFall, In Flames, The Haunted are all from here. Also, we speak like the irish do.
I'm a fan too. The praise for him can be a bit overwhelming sometimes, but there's no doubt he's good.
I found something very interesting Aphex related when I visted Berlin a couple of months ago. Went to a store called Space Hall (rather famous record stuff if you're into electronic music) and found a very limited (only 600 copies) of a white label Aphex Twin vinyl... or rather someone who used his name to put a vinyl out because it aint one of the official releases. It doesnt realllly sound like Aphex Twin, but I could be wrong, the guy makes a lot of different types of music. Even if it isnt a real Aphex I'm still happy I bought it since its a rather nice record. I ripped the vinyl and put it all up on youtube in case anyone could give me more information about this record:
