Best of 2010. AKA my GOTY which probably won't be looked at, but is here for people to disagree with.

So, I know the GB crew are deliberating their top picks right we speak, but I felt compelled to make my own list as well. I know we're all focusing on what's to come, but it's always nice to look at the shelf and see what games brought us the most joy this past year. Although there was a SHITLOAD of great AAA caliber games, some of those were outdone by some smaller productions in my opinions. Without further ado:

List items

  • Rockstar San Diego created a masterpiece that rivals their brethren across the pond's best. If that statement doesn't mean anything to you, then I guess you probably will not agree with the rest of this list. Even the Red Dead Undead DLC is amazing.

  • So yeah, Bioware has this little space opera trilogy thingy going, you may have heard of it. It was difficult to deliberate between this and RDR for my GOTY. Bioware made some bold moves changing some gameplay elements, but I think it worked for the best. The Empire Strikes Back feel of the story kept me glued to the screen wanting to see what happens next. Shepherd.

  • I know we all thought this was supposed to be a Multiplayer focused entry, but damn were we all wrong. You got a Singleplayer experience that added so much to Ezio's story while developing Desmond's side making his plight that much more interesting. Only thing left to be said is, "Uh uh uh uh, UH!!!"

  • DMC's OG creator with a female lead even more bombastic than Dante, yes please! Fighting Angels, her once best friend, and dealing with daddy issues is all par for the course in this Stylish Action game. This game is just a crazy, yet fun romp with numerous nods to other games and franchises.

  • What great way for Bungie to leave the series that made them financially secure. All the forward thinking design of Halo 3 and ODST are further pushed and refined to make a finely honed console FPS.

  • Yes I know this game apes ideas from various sources, but damn did it do it well. Vigil Games made a Zelda game that rivals Nintendo's own recent efforts. Plus seeing Joe Madureira's artwork come to life is just a joy to behold. I can't wait to see what these guys do next.

  • Criterion makes a Need for Speed game. Count me the hell in! Great racing matched with some great cat and mouse gameplay and the Autoblog. Damn, that thing is slick as hell and offers near infinite re-playability. Now, I want a new Burnout. MAKE IT SO CRITERION!!!!

  • Treyarch had something to prove, and I think they delivered handily. A robust multiplayer experience, paired with a competent singleplayer campaign, throw in a bevy hidden modes as well, and you have one of the most well rounded games to come out of the franchise to date.

  • So there was this awesome JRPG released back in March. No, not the one with all the F's and the crazy high roman numeral. Tri-Ace, made this little diddy and it was one hell of a ride. The battle system is a mix between Shadow Hearts and Disgaea. Plus, this IS the game that earns the NORTHIE! Trust me on that. Go forth and youtube cutscenes from this game and you will see.

  • This is my Left Field choice. The story is a complete haze to me at this point, but I'm damn sure I knew that I kicked a lot of Russian Robo Ass, smoked a shit load virtual cigs, and blew up a humungous space station. Shinji Mikami made a great game and even though it flew under radar, don't pass it up. Worth at the least a rental.
