I'm not sad to see Game go but It's good to see this getting coverage in other places than just locally.

A few companies have done this and the real worry is that more will try the same thing, they know they're going down the tubes and don't provide any redundancy for their long term employees. To be unemployed in Ireland is a quite scary thing right now and for your last job to be a store clerk is frightening, it's not like there's a shortage of them. I hope they've been working away skilling up so they could move on to something better but I think the chances of that aren't great for anyone who isn't studying in college/uni.

The fight with grimskull was stupid, dude took a retarded amount of Lascannon shots to the face before he died.

Just get some Warboss-be-gone from your local Apothecary or Magos Biologis and apply vigorously with the Thunderhammer applicator.

Looks like Ubisoft are issuing refunds or at least have a process in place for it

http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/9751064939/m/5561081249?r=7411003249#7411003249

re the DRM - we are hoping to have an official statement soon.

Those of you unhappy with the way the game is running on your system, please contact Support, to see if they can improve it - please make sure you have updated drivers and the game - there is an update available after install - before you contact them.

If that is not the resolution your after, I'm sorry but one here on the forum will be able to deal with any refunds or personally answer individual complaints.

If you contact the retailer - or if that's not an option, Ubisoft Support they can advise you further on the next stages you need to go through if you wish to pursue a refund.

It's got it on the PC version, the Ubi-manager thing sync's save games when you quit the game, or at least it tries to and takes ages.

I watched the quick look and wanted this game and since I only have a PC that's my only option, the extra wait was a pain in the ass and getting the hang of the crappy controls made me want to quit after the first 5 minutes I stuck with it and started to like it. The main problem with the game I have is the Ubisoft Ubiaccount that's come with it, didn't EA say they left steam because they couldn't do this?

So it appears that Ubisoft have claimed that From Dust should only have a one time online login and then from then on you can play offline, it's far from that and honestly it seems the best thing to do (especially if you own the 360 version as well) is to compain to steam about this and request a refund. Several people have done this according to http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/08/18/from-dust-does-need-online-badly-ported/#comment-774924 and received a refund from their steam purchase.

As for me, I'm going to stick it out because it looks like a decent game asides from the always on DRM, the badly ported controls and the low quality of the graphics (compaired to what my PC can usually do) and I don't have any alternatives to play it on.

As one of the X-COM fanatics I'll still give this a go... after the reviews.

  • For my own tastes though I'm not liking the 50's style, had enough of that with bioshock. Can't say I'm a fan of the style, I'll try to ignore that when looking at the game.
  • The fact that it could be based only around a single town or area (although X-COM's locations where small maps with repeating tiles I still like the idea of saving Rio from aliens... or letting them take over countries I might not like) Could this sense of weight really be transferred to a small area
  • More elements of bioshock in the game than I care to see tbh. Bioshock was a good game, I didn't bother with Bioshock 2 so I can't comment on it, I just don't want this to be known as XCOM:Bioshock with aliens or when someone asks "What's this XCOM game?" "Why, it's like bioshock but on land and with aliens."

@IntramanDW: The google docs link works fine. I'm sure someone will translate it to giantbomb soon.
