PC Upgrade?

So I threw some new RAM into my comp, well i guess "threw" is a pretty loose term, during the process i somehow disconnected my HDD power cable and didn't realize until my comp was trying to boot off the CD ROM drive (which kind of freaked me out). So then i got to take it all apart again and find the problem, fun times. Anyway I upgraded from 6gb to 12gb 1600mhz, and i was hoping this would help while capturing game footage through fraps, as I was noticing a significant frame rate drop when recording. It wasn't a constant drop but up and down sometimes zeroing out at points. So after installing my new memory sticks I figured I would give Battlefield a go to see if I had straightened out the problem. But to my displeasure, the problem persisted, and I was shrouded in disappointment.
After laying down some heavy fire in a couple matches to help relieve the anger that had overcome my (computer upgrade) excitement, I took to the forums hoping to find a thread that would somewhat relate to my problem, and perhaps provide a helpful solution. I quickly found this thread http://frapsforum.com/threads/fps-drops-to-unplayable-when-recording.822/ and soon after found a solution to my problem or it at least has the potential to be a problem solver. The solution suggests that I purchase a second HDD and reserve that for all of my recorded content. This makes total sense, but I wouldn't mind a second opinion, especially since HDD's are pretty pricey at the moment. So if you have any experience with this, or are over 90% sure that this will work, please share your knowledge.
