This whole comment section is people crying, no doubt it sucks for PC only guys but does anyone really think that infinity ward - everyone's new golden boys after CoD4 would actually change this a month before release? Especially since they are being backed by Activision who would probably be estimating this game to sell over 10 million? You think 100,000 or even twice that would be missed? They do have that massive cash cow called WoW to make up that cost also.. "
The difference is, people who play PC have a valid reason to not be happy, the people who only play console haven't a clue what the issue is yet still feel the need to wade in and demonstrate their ignorance.

ofc IW aren't going to drop IW.net now considering they've already spent the dev time creating it but if PC gamers said nothing and voted with their wallets IW can easily say "PC sales are non-existant, this is all piracy's fault". Now, at least, they can't say that with a straight face and other developers will take note. (DICE, hilariously, alread have)

btw this isn't just IW. Codemasters have also just released Dragon Rising on PC with no dedicated servers and it is a complete mess.

Even if you take half the number who signed the petition, that's still +$2 million Activision just said goodbye to. I don't care how much they make on the consoles, no one throws away millions when it is so easy to code S.A.D.S into a game during development.

Also, who or what is a "casual PC gamer" that finds the current PC online experience so abstruse they need a console interface?

You can't run a PC game without a decent GPU, if you can pick out a GPU or upgrade and install a new one then you can certainly handle the mindnumbing complexity of server browsing.

And calling people nerds while being on a videogame website on the internet...

I got to page 3 and gave up reading. More than half of these mewling cabbages don't know what they're talking about compounded even more by the fact this has nothing to do with them or their consoles.

"Who cares?! I love MW on XBOXlive, it's the best...what's a dedi-micated server?"

So the people who this news actually affects are rightly not happy, and know dragging PC MP ten years back into the past has killed this game's potential on PC.  The console only crowd will continue being mindless consumers who will settle for less and at ever increasing price.

This shouldn't have turned into a PC vs Console argument, they should not only be supporting PC gamers but demanding dedicated servers for their own platform. Essentially, they're the reason people like Bobby Kotick has the attitude he has.

You're also being an ignorant fool.

@Diamond: heh, just trying to show the difference between Dice and IW, how they view the pc platform.
I think it's valid, I just think it's not good for the discussion if we go completely side track on DICE.  To me it just seems like DICE is taking a gamble, knowing they can't outsell MW2 anyways, and pouring their hope into the PC version (with this sort of PR to be specific).  Maybe I'll pick up the PC version of Bad Company 2 at a later date.  The problem is these companies are taking too much of a zero sum attitude, either you support PC gamers or you support console gamers. "
DICE is merely saying they are supporting both PC and console. IW are the one's taking a zero sum attitude.

Sure, it's very ballsy to announce it right after IW dropped their bomb but it is infinitely more welcome than the way IW has treated the PC community.

" Oh no.   Seriously, I love PC games and am certainly going to get MW2 on 360 and PC, but I wasn't planning on playing multiplayer on PC simply because of the lack of matchmatching and the terrible issues with servers over the years. I'm tired of it and I just want to play a game, I could care less where or how, just get me online. If IWNet does that, I'll be happy. "
What "terrible issues with servers"?

The PC team that made BF2 are making BF3.

DICE have said BF:BC2 on PC has a separate dev team and will not be a port but I think that remains to be seen.

Good job though, they've provided much entertainment by hopping on the drama bandwagon.

Matchmaking & Smoother Gameplay: When you want to player a multiplayer game on PC, in the past. You’d have to scroll through a Server Browser which listed every available server which was hosted by individual server admins. Each had their own private rules, mods, or ways of playing the game. Most players would also use the server browser to find just the best quality game (based on PING). With IWNET matchmaking, it takes all that into account for you. All you have to do is select the playlist (pre-set gametypes with custom rules) that fits the style of play you are in the mood for. When you do, it will automatically find you a game with the best performance, ping, and preferences based on your location and individual connection as well as matching you with players of your same SKILL. So you’re always guaranteed the best game performance for where you are and what connection you’re playing on as well as an equal game with other players of your same skill level, not rank, but skill level. It doesn’t mean you’ll just be thrown into a random game! It will put you in the game that will give you the smoothest gameplay possible without you having to manually find a server with the best ping.

That response from IW, treating the PC fans as if they have the mental capacity of a poptart, is kind of what I was expecting.

They can't go back and put in S.A.D.S. support now, so they are ploughing ahead with what they always intended to do. Using the transparent lies and deception the console crowd would happily eat up doesn't work on the PC community. But since they're console only focused I guess this is the only way they can communicate anymore. They knew what they were doing from the beginning, and judging by this ridiculous response I'm guessing that theory about IW wanting to ditch the PC platform, but being pressured by other sources to keep developing for it, is looking more and more accurate.

"  This is one game. One ACTIVISION game. Yes it's a biggun', but it doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme of our beloved video gaming.
If you're going to be so pessimistic to think this is a sign of horrible things to come to PC games, then you may as well just admit PC gaming is dead and play iPhone games, or that pirating games is condonable behavior from a hobbyist who wishes to see the industry flourish. It's self-defeating behavior. So by all means, go nuts on pissing and moaning about MW2 for PC, and the grubby direction it's taken. But it's still just one game being discussed here. If you're still concerned about the state of PC gaming, then cancel your MW2 pre-order and move it over to a GOOD PC game ... like Borderlands :) "

Go to the codemasters 'Dragon Rising' PC forum.

This isn't just one game, this is becoming a pattern.

(on the petition thing, I've always seen them as worthless but so many gaming sites mentioned the petition I thought I might as well sign up...if it works; great. If it doesn't; meh. I, like lots of people, have a dynamic ip so I could easily sign up multiple times, and there's always proxies etc. So it's obviously a flawed concept.)
