" well, it dropped about seventy slots on amazon, hows that for a community effort? "
I can't see it making any difference. From what I've heard it takes hundreds of hours to code S.A.D.S. into a game. If they had of done it during development they would have easily made a profit from the PC port.
That's what the favourites tab is for. When you do find that server with the good ping, populated with people (generally a clan) that you get along with, then you don't have to waste any time browsing for servers.
Obviously, people like ReFracture have never played a dedicated server game on PC, but that goes without saying I guess. "
Perhaps I shouldn't fault you for making a generalization like that, but I'll have you know that I've had plenty of experience with server browser/dedicated server game play. Quake 3, Counter-Strike 1.5, 1.6, Source, among others. Match making with the PS3 version of Call of Duty 4 has been a much more pleasant experience than the PC version for me. "
What you said about dedicated servers does not conform to reality.
" Oh no! now I must join my games painlessly with a single click, rather than tediously scrolling through a server browser, oh the HUMANITY! "
*joins server* 500 ping "quits* *joins server* French server*quits* *joins server* 4/32 players *quits* *joins server* 5 minutes later host leaves, lags out.*quits* Yep, really painless. OR *clicks server list* *sees 50 low ping servers* *picks one with the map you want* *plays in 1 server for the whole session* "
Ahhh, matchmaking takes into account server connection & skill of players. "
It takes both into account and then fails. I have yet to play an FPS that uses p2p and not have the above problem. The skill of players cannot be truly measured due to stat padding and lots of other factors. Using MW as an example, you find a server you like with a good ping, game setup, and player skill level (which you yourself deduce) and you favourite it. From then on it takes you less than 60 seconds to jump into a game anytime you like.
Obviously, people like ReFracture have never played a dedicated server game on PC, but that goes without saying I guess.
A petition won't change their business model. They know what they're doing and unless they're completely up their own asses they would have expected this reaction.
I think Pachter was bang on the money in what he said about Microsoft on the last Bonus Round. Microsoft and IW have made it quite clear they have an exceedingly close relationship (the end of the last MW2 trailer) so whether or not MS was directly involved in this decision I'm sure it's a decision they will secretly welcome.
"I can't see any real reason someone would opt for the PC version over the console now."
The usage of mouse and keyboard? I'm pretty sure even that is a pretty big deciding factor for a majority of players. "
It is a big factor, but not with a console port. I'm playing Dragon Rising right now and the hit detection and controls were clearly not designed with a keyboard and mouse in mind. If IW have just done a straight console port with aim-assist et al then it will be just as ineffective and pointless.
But that's my point. I'd say most people who own a PC also own either a 360 or a PS3, or both.
As I said before, I can't see any real reason someone would opt for the PC version over the console now. So PC sales, miniscule before, will be microscopic now.
They would probably have made more money over-all by giving the PC community what it needs instead of wasting time and money on a service no one wants.
