My Favorite Games of the Year 2017

A fantastic year of games has come to an end. The release of the Nintendo Switch has certainly had an impact on my list, if I had played more of Xenoblade 2, Steamworld Dig 2 and Mario+Rabbids than I did I'm guessing half of my list would have been Switch games, but alas, there is not enough days in a year.

List items

  • What a game! It was like falling in love with video games all over again. Truly a breath of fresh air. Is it possible that the first game released on the Nintendo Switch will also be the best game ever released on the Switch? It wouldn't surprise me.

  • Give me the moooooons! I need them! Gimme!

If not for Nintendo releasing one of the best games of all time this year this would of course be number one. How this game is "only" number 2 is just astounding.

    Nintendo, I bow to you.

  • Despite its problems I had so much fun playing this with my friends. A perfect playing game with a glaring content problem.

  • The surprise hit this year, as with Destiny 2, I had so much fun playing with friends. All the bugs and rough edges just made it "better" and more charming. Can't wait to play more of the future maps.

  • You'll never see it coming!

Could there ever be a game with more STYYYYLE than this?

I watched Jeff and Vinny play Persona 4 a few years ago and I've looked forward to playing Persona 5 since then.

Towards the end the story drags a little and I just wanted to skip a dungeon or two, if the game was just a little shorter it would have been even higher up on this list.

  • I watched the crew play the first half of the game, then I played the whole thing myself before I watched them play the rest of it.

There are so many moments in this game that deserve recognition, but I'll have to give it to Majima's introduction. I think my jaw dropped to the floor between laughing out loud. Seeing Dan, Alex and Vinny react to the same scene was just as amazing, everyone just loved it!

  • This is the best VR experience I've had. I truly felt like I was dodging bullets like Neo, crawling on the floor, one foot out in a three-point-landing Iron-Man-like pose, one hand behind me picking up a shuriken while shooting a guy with my left hand (all while looking as stupid as possible to everyone else in the living room). The MUST play game of VR.

  • This is actually the DLC "War of the Chosen". Giantbomb's database doesn't include DLC as separate game entries.

War of the Chosen fixes most problems I had with the original game and improves on almost every other aspect. I feel like this game should be higher on the list, but it was just that good a year of games.

  • F**k this game!

  • Life is less strange than in 2015, but it's still *hella* awesome!
