They made a movie about Legos and it was awesome. I've never played minecraft and don't intend to but the lack of a story from its source material does not necessarily mean that something imaginative and cool couldn't come out of it.

You know, I didn't even think about the Lego Movie, but I actually really, really enjoyed that movie. Yeah, Minecraft could end up great like that, but then again, the Lego Movie might have just been an exception. It would be really hard to recreate what that movie did, and I just don't think that an IP like Minecraft is the best candidate to try to do this again with.

You've put far to much time into this, you seem to be rating the movie by the actual games repertoire other than Minecraft, although I do agree with you on metal gear, but, there's a lot of fat that could be trimmed and made into a three parter. Ghost recon if made by the right people could be the next American sniper or hurt locker, it could be great and I'm guessing it would be an adaptation of the books and not the games objectives.

Assassins creed, good stealth?. Good parkour?. Bad story?. I think the story's "interesting", but the parkour and stealth get in the way, it would of been so much better as a linear game. Wow is a given, that movie has probably been watched frame by frame a shit ton of times to make sure this is an above average film.

The rest Uwe Boll comes to mind...

Well, a lot of these ratings were also based off of the trust I have in some of the owners of the IP to help make these games into a great movie. For example, Assassin's Creed COULD be a good movie, but I think Ubisoft could really end up holding the project back if they want to make the movie available to a wider audience, which they probably will want to do, and this could lead to a pretty mediocre film overall. The same goes with Ghost Recon. I really like the Fast and Furious franchise, and a Ghost Recon movie based in an urban area could end up a lot like a F&F movie, but if it gets help back and isn't able to spread its wings, it might not be able to reach its full potential. I have a lot of faith in a studio like Naughty Dog to not hold the project back and this is why I have such high hopes for the Last of Us and Uncharted.

@lazyaza: well, Harry Potter does have a slight amount of violence, although it's not usually super graphic like in Lord of the Rings. Also, there's plenty of murder and death in the HP too, but maybe not in the way that you want. If you want gore like Shadow of Mordor, a Harry Potter game definitely won't be it. I'm not familiar with Warhammer 40K but if that could be a great game, then I'm all for it. My idea was just an idea but Rocksteady can definitely go out and do anything the want and do it well at this point. I just hope their next game is good and that people enjoy it in the end. Thanks for the comment!

@oscar__explosion: @mikelitoriz: @shortbreadtom: I think we might be forgetting that these are opinions and that different people have different ones. Just because one person likes Harry Potter more than Batman and visa versa, doesn't mean they are "on something". Nobody's opinion on the matter is wrong in any way so let's please stop arguing about it and just accept each other's different views. Thanks! :)

@mikelitoriz: :/ That's your opinion and I respect that. Not everything is going to appeal to everybody, but please do understand that to the millions of fans of the series, Harry Potter is amazing, and there might just be a reason for that. A game in the series might not appeal to you now, but who knows, maybe it could do enough new things that might still stand out.

@bartok: Well, I just finished rereading all of the books about a month ago, and at least to me, they still are amazing. If anything, now reading them again I gained a better appreciation for them. It really does build an entire alternate universe in such a fleshed out way, better than a lot of other well known fantasy series like Narnia for example. This has always been a genre that I've loved, so maybe I'm just being a little biased, but I really do think the series will withstand the test of time in the genre and continue to be appreciated alongside another fantasy work like the Lord of the Rings. Again, I might just be biased but I'd still love to see this happen. I would pick up a Superman game by Rocksteady too if they made one and it looked good, that would be one hell of a challenge for them.

I know that a lot of older people like it but the core target audience for any Harry Potter material is made of up of children. And children do not give a fuck about Harry Potter anymore.

It's not necessarily the actual Harry Potter name that would sell the game, it would be the idea of the game. Shadow of Mordor didn't sell because it was a Lord of the Rings game, it sold because it was a good game with new, interesting mechanics and ideas. What it gained from the license in the end wasn't really the recognition, it was that the Lord of the Rings world is just cool and interesting, just as the Harry Potter world is.

It always felt to me like the people who like to complain about video game violence are the people who don't really know games. The idea seems to be spread by an older generation who remembers games much differently. They remember being young and glancing at Super Mario, and now they might look at a game like Doom and they think there's something wrong with that. To them, that's not what games are supposed to be, but that's just because they don't understand what they've become. Gamers didn't just randomly start liking the gratuitous violence in a game like Doom or Mortal Kombat: video games evolved to get to that point, and they just don't understand that. Kids now adays don't start gaming with a game like Doom, they start with a game like Mario Kart or Sonic, unless you start gaming while much older. There's nothing wrong with cheering during Bethesda's conference when you see a daemon's neck neck snapped. Many gamers reached this point where they can truly appreciate the progression that lead to this kind of game. Doom didn't just happen, despite what many people think; believe it or not, it all started with games like Pacman and Tetris, they just don't understand that.

A friend and I actually discussed this a couple weeks ago. We were wondering what Rocksteady should move onto after Arkham Knight, and what other properties Warner owns (is Rocksteady even owned by Warner? whatever) and Harry Potter was the first thing that came up. Those movies only got good, serious and interesting when it got dark - the last 3 movies. A darker series that follows the criminal underground and aurors of that world would be super fucking sweet.

That's awesome that other people are thinking along these lines too. Rocksteady is owned by Warner Bros by the way, but Warner Bros only owns the film rights to Harry Potter, but I think they could get the video game rights to the franchise if they tried. But yeah, Rocksteady does dark atmospheres so well, and the world of Harry Potter gets really dark in some places. Now I'm starting to like the idea of the game taking place during Voldermort's first rise to power, before the birth of Harry. That time was never really talked about enough in the books/movies, so it would really give the developers free reign to do whatever they want. I would trust Rocksteady above all studios to somehow make it work. Thanks for the comment.
