@CaptStickybeard: As a guy who's worked in web development and done a Computer Science degree I just feel that the overwhelming proportion of developers that are guys to girls (anecdotally 95%) creates an industry that is geared towards creating products that appeal only to the male demographic. There is no real justiifcation for it to happen, really it comes down to the wider perception of computer science is for guys only. Which I think is a shame.

Patrick Klepek I obviously don't speak for everyone that visits sites but articles like this are the reason I continue to visit Giant Bomb, it's not just about the humor.

As for the issue at hand it seems a lot of the community are very dismissive of a pervasive issue that will continue to be a problem whilst such attitudes remain. In claiming an article like this doesn't belong on giantbomb, a site about games and the industry that makes them, you guys fail to present a suitable place where women's voices can be heard.

As a guy who has worked in web development I have heard a whole bunch of "casual" sexism, jokes between team members and the like, and I'd like to think it's just jokes but on all male web development team you have to wonder. The fact that the industry is so male dominated is a problem, and sexism is one of the many untennable side effects of this and until people start to care about these problems the issues will persist and gaming as a medium will continue to be perceived as a pass time for juveniles and delinquents. Obviously this isn't the case but some of the responses to this article are wholely stereotypical of gamers, and that is a shame.

For sure man, me and my mate are playing through it we're right at the same area as you. It's pretty good and the story takes some good turns, though I wish the main character would get thrown in jail a bit less >.<. Really looking forward to seeing how this one ends, kind of holding out for a not happily ever after ending, but I suspect that's where they'll go. Good combat too. It is one of the few games I kind of wish wasn't on the wii though, as there's some beautiful art work and world design here, and the frame rate does it no justice sometimes (rarely). Still a proper boss game all in all.

Yo duders I'm a pretty big JRPG fan me I've played more than a few of them and now I'm going to try to make one, despite not being well Japanese. So I was wondering if you played them and why?

I play them mainly because they have the best story out of any games, and the best games in the genre usually have awesome characters. That said a banging battle system like that in Panzer Dragoon Saga can make up for it. So what do you guys think? Combat exploration or characters? Or do you despise the genre?

This was very interesting to read, so I figure I'll chuck my point of view in here. I like FF-X the most, the characters resonated with me more than any others in any game I have played since. This was however my first Final Fantasy so comes with all the attatched nostalgia and expectations as to what the series should entail. After FF-X I have sought out and played every game in the main series bar FF-14 and have found them all enjoyable in one way or another (though I have not cleared the majority of them).

That said I had only dabbled in FF-7 in the ps2 era and managed just a month ago to go back to it and play through the entire game. I think the sound track is great, I was affected by Aeris' death despite knowing it was coming (also great use of Aerith's theme to tug at the old heart strings Nobuo Uemetsu did wonders here), and I found it to be a good gaming experience with little prior playing of it in this day and age. Also the use of pre-rendered backgrounds help that game remain visually interesting even to this day. I guess what I'm saying is that without nostalgia I was able to find a great deal to enjoy about the game.

I think that the series has evolved and each iteration changes some things, and so expecting any new Final Fantasy game to be like your favorite is likely to leave you disappointed. Now FF-13 has been critically regarded as poor as opposed to the vast majority of the rest of the series which were praised in the wider press, so perhaps there is something to those that say it is the worst one yet. Personally I enjoyed it although I found the characters disappointing, probably as I was seeking the character development of X.

Finally sorry for the longish post and dragging up an old thread.

I've always been a fan of pre menu intros, thw fast paces snippets of cutscenes that act a little like a trailer. Good examples are MGS 2, Panzer Dragoon Saga and the command and conquer games.

I'd say that FF-7 has a fantastic intro though, with that sweeping midgard shot that then pans to the train, where bombing run starts playing. So good
