When I was lurking the ole NeoGaf forums I stumbled upon this little tidbit: D4 sold less than 10k in late September.

It's quite a damn shame that D4 is kinda in the gutter at the moment. Personally, I was planning to get it on PC in a similar vain to the other xbone exclusive DR3.

Hopefully, this game would pick up some steam with some help from actual marketing from Microsoft and/or popular gaming personalities.

Tch, yeah. Mentioning Book 2 and the ending of Book 1 does tend to open a can of worms. Anyways, here's my last bit of negativity for now. As mentioned before in this and the old thread, LOK seems to have a tendency to drop off issues and do a quick "drive-by solution" in the next season. Book 1, the equalist movement had legimate concerns about inequality in Republic City; Book 2, there's an elective president. In Book 2, the civil war aspect just gonna came and went into the night without any real consequences. Book 3, spirits doing mad disturbance of the city infrastructure and hints of xenophobia; Book 4, in 3 years it was like "Its all good dawg". Having only 13-14 episodes ,disjointed lineup of seasons, and want of self-contain story arcs seem to be the baseline explanation for the drop-offs.

Besides that, get hype boyah, Book 4 in 3 days.

Still haven't rewatch the entire series at this point (1-3), but I still recall Book 2 being only great at around the Wan's episodes and beyond. Although, the ending was a bit off-putting with the Deus Ex Machinas and even the creators had little to no idea how to back them up. (http://avatarthelegendofkorraonline.com/the-legend-of-korra-book-2-spirits-audio-commentary-notes/6054/).

Of course, I still very much look forward to Season 4. I just can't help but bemoan the lost potential of the setting, basically the Avatar universe version of the Interwar period: Communism/Anarchism revolution and/or struggle, Spanish/Russian Civil War, 20th Cen. Chinese Warlord Period and etc.

The parallels applies mostly to Books 1,3 and maybe 4. ATLA was essentially the fight to restore the status quo of the world. Whereas LOK was mostly about challenging and breaking down old institutions. e.g. "The world doesn't need the Avatar." , collapse of the central power in the Earth Kingdom, and radical answers to social/economic inequality.

Since the situation in Book 4 seems to be the Chinese Warlord Period with the a inept heir apparent in toll. I wonder if we'll see ideologically charged factions in the same vain of the civil wars mentioned above. Would be interesting, but I don't think that'll be possible with only 13 episodes.

Anyways, here's my fan prediction/speculation :

-Kuvira, the suspicious looking lass from Book 3 and possible authoritarian in Book 4. I'm going to guess she was a Red Lotus member, metal benders being part of that organization is not unheard of. Much like the main villain from Book 2, deviated from anarchism. For her case, I'm guessing a military meritocracy. Obvious parallel is the Trotsky-Stalin split.

-Korrasami

-Prince Not Gonna Be Earth King is gonna die. Maybe Toph might be a transitional figure-head of a new overarching government for... the region that was the Earth Kingdom. They really need actual names for the landmasses.

Heh. Unfortunately I am one of those who were quick to judge. Though my memory of season 1 was a tad lazy, the romance bits were the least of the season's problems. I believe the purpose of it were much in the same vein as bending games character building from teamwork and social interaction. Both of which I found lackluster, but based on from what you said in this thread I can sort of see what they were trying to do. Maybe it was just the writing that killed it for me, dunno. Much like BabyChooChoo, let's agree to disagree.

Although that being said, I will try to see the Legend Of Korra from your view in the future by marathoning seasons 1, 2 and 3. Perhaps with some director commentary if I can get the blu-rays for 1 & 2 on the cheap. Plus, it'll be interesting to see a semi-complete series with such a disjointed production history and how it tries to get things together. Fresh in the mind and etc etc.

That's cool to hear. Hopefully you'll appreciate it differently if you see it again. But for the record, the history of Korra's production isn't THAT disjointed. It originally started as a single season series, but very early into Book One Nickeldoeon ordered it to be turned into a four season series, and most of Book One through to Book 4 were all sketched out, planned and written back to back.

Hm.. I thought Nick only renewed Korra for second season mid-way or the end of season 1? (the announcement was made around early July of 2012). Then at around the second season they ordered another two seasons( 3 & 4). Although if I was right it means that had roughly 14 months of pre/production time for season 2. While season 1/setting/characters/animation/style/etc took roughly 2 years.

Edit: This is mainly based on memory from interviews and articles. Including wikipedia of series overview for some minor fact checking on dates.
