1. Batman- this site seems to really like it, and i'm waiting for the price to drop, but definitely looking forward to playing it 2. UC2- I think Giantbomb picking it will also help 3. ACII 4. MW2 5. Borderlands-- Although I wouldnt be surprised if any of these 3 are switched, all really close in my mind (havent played ACII though) 6. DA:O- I think the PC players on this site will help 7. Shadow Complex- big 360 game for a 360 favored site (This is just an observation, and should not be overblown) 8. SFIV-seems big on the forums 9. inFamous 10. Red Faction: Guerrilla- My dark horse for the year.
I have not played Batman, but if someone could tell me... Does that game have a moment that sums it all up? Like just a crazy moment that is so great that it is the first thing that pops in your head when you think of it. Or is it just a solid all-around amazing game?
Uncharted 2 deserved it I think just because of the set pieces and some of the little things. I mean just think about all of the memorable set pieces that this game has, and I think that is an important part for a Game of the Year Award. Last year both MGS4 and GTA4 both had some great set pieces. And I think UC2 wins this year by far in that department. When you look back at the game of the year, you want that one moment of the game that you can remember right away. Even during the podcast you could hear the crew remembering some of the great moments that they forgot, because there were so many.
Also, one of the most underrated things for Uncharted 2 was that there wasnt a single load time during the single player after the beginning. This was very important for me because it was a game for me that I NEVER WANTED TO SET DOWN. It was one of those classic situations where I said, "just 5 more minutes" and then 3 hours later I wonder where all the time went. Just the whole pacing of the single player made it the game of the year for me.
I was in a domination match when it happened... and it was really weird. I didn't like it though because not only did it end the game right there... it is an instant win for the other team. So even though we were beating the other team, as soon as the nuke went off, it gave them an instant win. That doesn't seem right to me for a team objective match like domination.
" Great! Uncharted 2 was fun and all, but since I set out to play MW2 it was a bit disappointing... Hey wait! Still down! "
Oh and just wait until you try to reload and hit R2... only to suddenly realize that it's a grenade and throw it randomly. I felt soooo stupid when i did that!
If you don't like sports then don't read my suggestion: Bill Simmons is by far my favorite sports journalist, and you can read some of his work over at ESPN.com, and he recently just wrote a 700 page book about basketball. Originally named The Book of Basketball, now it was just released, and I haven't read it yet, but just based on the exerpts that I read over on ESPN and just the way his articals are written, I am pretty sure that this book will be good. Don't worry about the length of the book, it is divided up into easy to read chapters, and its not like you will need to remember characters... these were some of the biggest stars of basketball at the time. For anyone that is just a fan of sports in general, I recommend this book, Simmons has a way of expressing the views of the fan.
inFamous first, because you may want to play it again as a evil character, and this will give you a nice little break before playing the same game again.
