My Debacle With The Wii

No Caption Provided

Their is a debate I’m having with myself on the Wii and Super Mario Galaxy 2. The first Mario Galaxy game was simply amazing; I basically ran a marathon in that game and got all 120 stars in about a week. The Wii I had that save file on along with 35+ hours of Twilight Princess is gone, not getting into how it’s gone but it’s gone. I can tell people like I just did above that I got it but I have no proof of the matter; no cloud saves of the game, no tag I can recover to my new Wii and keep all that tracked, nothing. I’m really happy I got all the stars but I’m not too sure I’ll be doing it with Galaxy 2. I would hate to go through all that again only for the proof to vanish.

I hop on the Xbox 360 and conversations are started. People see what I’m playing and are always interested in my thoughts. Chat invites are always thrown around; lets talk while we play games together. Played Resistance 2 on the PS3 yesterday, messaged friends, got trophies, etc. Both PS3 and 360 are so heavy with showing off what you got and are extremely accessible to talk with gamers, meet new people, and discover new games that you might not have ever heard of or seen before. The Wii needs something like this, especially how they excited everybody with their pretty amazing E3 show.

I don’t want to turn this into another “the Wii needs this” list of items, I just want to say that Nintendo could make more money if they implemented something like what Xbox and PSN has. Look at PlayStation Plus, this is selling and I guarantee more than half the gamers out their have no idea what the hell this program is. You are promised a free game a month but what game? This month you got something great like Wipeout HD, but who’s to say you will like the other games they pick out; yet people are still buying it. That program is $50 a year with a couple extra months tacked on which could be a good deal for people that spend a lot of money of PSN. Xbox 360 Gold membership is essential to play games online so it’s a must buy for gamers wanting to get the most out of their gaming experience.

I recently started a thread on Giantbomb about a subscription service with the Wii and its universal that they wouldn’t pay a cent for it. I figured that would be the case but I still would like to see it more implemented. I really do want to play the Wii more. It was $250 but I still don’t think I’ve gotten that out of it. I also believe I would be on it more if it had some of the same features we love about 360 and PS3. What if they started achievements/trophies now and told developers they could put them into their old games (much like they did with PS3) Would you start becoming a collector? Could this actually bring more people to play their Wii. Remember, some gamers might only have a Wii, so this could be a huge upgrade for them. I don’t see myself becoming addicted to Wii achievements, but I’m sure many would.

I guess my debate comes down to the fact that I would like to see more done to the Wii to persuade me to power it up. Nintendo has the money and the resources, but are probably more into making the 3DS than trying to radically change what has made them so successful.

My Thoughts On Inception

No Caption Provided

This movie is absolutely not for the lazy thinker, as Christopher Nolan forces the watcher to keep track of multiple variables at once. Inception’s concept is so diverse, they literally explain what is going on almost through it’s entirety. In it’s two hour twenty minute run through, they squeeze in so much info and explain everything in great detail it’s almost too much to remember, almost. With it’s ingenious premise, exquisite special effects, and well thought out cast, Inception is the summer blockbuster that should not be missed.

The story is about a man named Dom Cobb who has the very unique skill of delving into people’s minds and stealing their ideas. This skill has run him out of the U.S. and away from his family and forced him into other countries to lay low. He meets a guy that wants to use his ability but instead of stealing ideas, he wants to plant an idea to make the person think what was not originally there; this technique is called Inception in which should be impossible. Dom must assemble a team of people to help him with this job including an architect who has to “create” the dream.

They do all this by using these machines, which I’m sure they explained but it was fairly brief. I’m not even sure how they can all be in the same dream, but this machine makes it possible and I might have just forgotten the explanation. They really do explain everything, every little detail that helps make this story more believable. Anything that could be a breaker to the whole “dream story” has a purpose in the movie. What about when you die in a dream, or you get hurt, it’s explained. What if you are suddenly woke up during the dream you need to be in, it’s explained. Try to hold off on the bathroom breaks during this film because I guarantee you will miss something that is relevant to the story.

The special effects are top notch. People have states it looks like The Dark Knight and the Matrix together. The action in the movie is better than any Matrix movie ever had a shot at. Sure the world warping and folding into itself is cool, but the fighting, chase, and shootout scenes really stand out. The whole scene in the hotel where the building is spinning is one of the best action scenes ever. At no point does it ever look fake where other movies with special effects like this always had the CGI in the way of the realism.

Inception never once felt long. I enjoyed it throughout the entire film and hope that other people watch it so we can discuss the ending. I’ve seen different thoughts on it and I have my own. This is definitely this year’s summer blockbuster so please go check it out if you have any interest at all.

Final Fantasy XIV Might Be My First MMO Experience

Final Fantasy XIV Online Logo

I have never experienced an actual MMO before and I plan on starting with the newest entry in the Final Fantasy universe. I understand people still play stuff like WOW and FFXI but I want to try and catch on with the “new thing.” I have some concerns about it though that I need some advice on.

For starters, the time factor comes to play. I game a ton of different games across almost all genres. I also might play 5-10 hours in one week and maybe 10-25 hours of games the next. I’m not entirely sure how much I’ll be able to play this game which comes to question is it enough to enjoy this game? What if I only play it for like five hours one week. Subscription aside,
is that enough to enjoy the game or would I be wasting my time?

Another factor is if this will be too hardcore for me? I know my way around a RPG and I’m a big Final Fantasy fan; but I hear FFXI takes quite a while before it becomes enjoyable (I eventually gave up on Final Fantasy XIII because it’s linearity was bothersome to me.) I guess the question is should I start with something more simple or should I not worry about it?

My last question is one that might start some flame. I really want to play this on PS3. I know the game is coming out first on PC and will probably be way better on it but I’m not sure how my PC would handle it which is why I would rather play it from the comfort of my couch with my PS controller. Will it hamper my first experience that much or should I save up to upgrade my PC to run it?

If their are any free MMO games I could play also please recommend them to me. Thanks everyone for the help.
